Overview

In an unnamed town somewhere in Arizona a factory exploded, wiping out most of the residence and wildlife and leaving behind radioactive waste. The waste sat festering for a decade before new wildlife began to call this place home. It would prove that the waste had strange effects on many of the creatures who came to inhabit the area. Among those creatures were stray cats and dogs, who the waste seemed to effect deeply.

The result of living in such chemically imbalanced conditions caused genetic markers, which had been dormant since the Cambrian Explosion, to activate. The felines began displaying odd bug-like mutations. It started first with antennae on the tops of their heads, then arthropod like limbs at their waist, tails that resembled grubs, and finally they became capable of speaking and walking on two legs.

Today Grubcats have spread all over the world and can be found on all reaches of the earth. They reproduce asexually by hacking up hairballs. By grooming themselves with their tongue the fur is introduced to the radioactive bacteria in their gut and stripped of all pigment and unique DNA, leaving behind a gray mass of fur. Within a week of being coughed up the hairball will begin to sprout eyes and ears, and eventually form a grubkit. As the grubkit ages it will take on unique colors and patterns based on its own individual life style and personality.

As a form of defense the mutated felines are capable of dropping their tail to escape predators. The tail will later grow back as a perfect copy of the original. This is the only part of the Grubcat's body that is regenerative.
