Dewi Lanjar is an Indonesian goddess of the sea, the opposite of Nyai Roro Kidul and "Queen of the Northern Sea" (北海の女王, Hokkai no joō), according to Javanese beliefs. She is a popular goddess in the city of Pekalongan, Central Java. Her name "Lanjar" means a woman who is divorced and have no children. It is said that her palace is located on the beach of Pekalongan, next to the Slamaran river.

Growing up as a princess, Lanjar was always taught how to be a proper lady. She's very polite and soft spoken, and even timid at times but also knows when to speak up for herself. She's very diligent and determined when doing her task, and doesn't want to let anyone down, most notably Nyi Roro Kidul whom she admires with great affection.

However despite her gentle demeanor, Lanjar can be very emotional as well. There are some instances where her emotions would take control and almost cause disasters. But as a ruler who cared deeply about the wellbeing of her followers and humanity in general, Lanjar knew that she needed to get a hold of herself and be strong for them during hard times.

Divine Physiology

As a goddess, Lanjar possess physical abilities far greater than any ordinary human. Her body can not be harmed by mortal weapons, however she can still be harmed by unarmed attacks from individuals with superhuman strength and Divine Weapons.

Hydrokinesis

Lanjar is an extremely skilled user of Water, which allows her to produce, control, and manipulate them. In addition, she can psychically extract it from the surrounding environment. Furthermore, she could psychically manipulate the flow, pressure, physical phases, viscosity, temperature and other properties of water, at will.

In ancient times in Pekalongan there lived a mortal princess named Dewi Rara Kuning, She has been a widow at a very young age because her husband died some time after their marriage. That is why Dewi Rara Kuning is then known as Dewi Lanjar. Because of this, Dewi Lanjar decided to leave her hometown to avoid being constantly consumed with grief. On arrival at the river Opak, she met the king of Mataram, Panembahan Senopati together with Mahapatih Singaranu in the midst of their ascetic meditation. Both feeling pity towards her, the men advised her to go to the south beach to meditate and face the queen of the Southern Sea, Nyi Roro Kidul. The queen, later decided to take Lanjar in as her own daughter, thus making her the princess of the South sea.

One day, Dewi Lanjar with the jinn troops was commanded to disrupt and prevent Raden Bahu from opening Gambiren forest (now located around the bridge of Pekalongan and Sorogenen village). However, Raden Bahu was unaffected by the temptations of Dewi Lanjar and the jinn. And thus Lanjar was unable to fulfill the task. Ashamed, She decided not to return to the South and requested permission to reside in the North sea. Her request was approved and Dewi Lanjar was allowed to stay and rule the North Sea especially in Pekalongan, Central Java.

Ragnarok

As a former human, Lanjar sided with humanity along with other deities and believe that they shouldn't be (the only one) blamed for the destruction of this world. She blamed Zeus and the heavens for abandoning their subjects and everything they created for their own pleasure, despite having more than enough power to right their wrongs to humanity instead of destroying it every thousand of years.
