Laurelrump is a former deputy of KaleClan who lived under Flutterstar's and Flickerstar's rules.
Laurelrump is a short, stocky tan-furred she-cat with a stump tail, deep blue eyes, and a torn ear.
Strict and very smart; prone to self-loathing and judging herself harsher than others.
EARLY LIFE
Laurelkit was born to Flutterstar and Mitewing, the only child of her mother's third litter. Having had several children, biological and adoptive, already, on top of being swamped with issues of leadership, Flutterstar was often absent during her kithood, prompting Laurelkit to push herself harder than necessary to learn the ways of being a warrior in attempt to claim her mother's attention.
When she was named Laurelpaw, she was given her older brother, Foxstripe, as a mentor; though the two of them shared a professional relationship, she was not offered much emotional support due to Foxstripe's preoccupation with competing with her brother, Pouncefur, for the role of their mother's deputy.
Laurelpaw is named Laurelrump, after her missing tail she had lost recently in battle; almost as soon as her ceremony is over, Flutterstar announces her son Foxstripe is now qualified for deputyship, and elects him thusly; her mother praises her intelligence and skills in combat.
Foxstripe proves to be a weak choice as deputy, despite how much trust Flutterstar places in him, and the leader not-so-subtly comments to Laurelrump that she would make a great deputy herself someday, hinting towards an apprentice once Harekit and Mosskit are of age. Laurelrump takes this to heart, especially when Flutterstar's attention is divided further after adopting a litter of three, deciding that the only way to gain her mother's approval was to prove herself as future deputy.
Several moons later, with Mosspaw as Laurelrump's first apprentice, Flutterstar calls a Clan meeting in which she discusses her notice of her daughter's proficiency in teaching; she demotes Foxstripe and promotes Laurelrump, which she accepts proudly, though anxiety pricks at her when she realizes the Clan was rooting for Coyotepelt's child, Flickerpelt, to be promoted instead. Through half-hearted cheers, Laurelrump vows to prove herself to everyone as the best possible successor to her mother.
DEPUTYHOODThough most of the Clan is polite to Laurelrump, treating her with respect as their deputy even if they disagree with their leader's choice, her relationship with her former mentor becomes strained. Foxstripe is enraged that their mother essentially picked Laurelrump as her favorite above him, and shows no intent to stay an ally of the she-cat. On a border patrol around Twolegplace, several warriors express doubt in Laurelrump's ability, comments that she pretends not to notice.
A forgetful and strict deputy that the Clan did not ask for, Laurelrump's position as deputy is threatened even further, though she sticks it out to stay close to her mother. In early newleaf, Laurelrump lead a patrol of she, Flickerpelt, Leopardpaw, and Jungledrift to take care of a badger who had settled in their territory; at Laurelrump's poor command, Jungledrift is slaughtered by the badger. When the three returned to camp to report back, Laurelrump was immediately interrogated by the Clan; Jungledrift was a very well-liked warrior within KaleClan, and they believe if Flutterstar had hired someone capable rather than blood-related to her, it could have been prevented. She tries to defend herself, but no one listens.
Alone in the woods Laurelrump considers the bush of yew berries that grew by the stream; at a vision of her deceased brother, Featherpaw, she decides against it, instead turning back to camp to tell Flutterstar she is resigning her role as deputy. In her place, she recommends Flickerpelt instead.
