Personality:
Chalk is pretty mellow for a Carolina Shepherd. He's quiet when waiting his turn at competitions and events and settles at his handler's feet when not working. Despite his calm demeanor, Chalk is a very focused and talented dog. He does great out in the field and excels in SAR where his steady and consistent nature is fueled by a quiet but intense drive. His handler describes him as steady and consistent.
He also has a great off switch in the house. Chalk is always found laying near his handler though he's not a big cuddler. He's successful without a competitive streak. Compete will often pit herself against Chalk for a challenge (and because Chalk puts up with her intense competitiveness). He doesn't really seek out the companionship of others, but he is very tolerant. Unfortunately for Chalk, that means this introverted guy occasionally gets stuck puppy-sitting due to his patient manner. He doesn't really mind too much though. (159 words)
