SPHINXES

one of the species of higher beasts, massive lion like creatures with long necks and human faces.

basics:

• extremely intelligent
• sphinx have three names: 
  • the first is a secret name, only known to the individual and a select few other sphinx. these hold tremendous power and are shared extremely rarely. these are usually a few words long, but can be up to a short paragraph. it should be written with the first letter of the first and last words capitalized. examples: The water touched me Suddenly, When owl Chirped, A church of bones and blood sat atop a hill. i watched it Fall.
  • the second is their sphinx name, which is one syllable followed by their place of birth then a name based on the time they were born during (ch-ch - morning, nana - midday, in'in - evening, pepe - night) example: On Duin In'in, Ly Eni'hy Pepe, Ao Lineron In'in.
  • the third name is a name used by all other species, usually coined by a lower beast the sphinx has a history with. typically based on a distinguishing feature. examples: Silver, Long-dark-fur, Birdwatcher.
• has a respect for animals, but cares little about humans and lower beasts
• often dedicated priests of angels
• can use magic easily, without any gestures, words, receptacles, etc.
