 story

(dream)

  • “The snow? It’s a beautiful thing. It’s something that I cannot explain.”

Eidolon is usually vague with his responses regarding anything that has to do with his job, even if it’s part of his interest. He always had an odd love for the snow, cold weather in general for that matter. Snow is a comforting thing to him, something about it brings peace to his mind. The way snow makes the landscape look endless, as it sometimes blends into the sky, turning his world into what seems like an endless white abyss. It has always been his comfort, it eases his mind from the busy views of more populated and busy areas.

  • “Hm.. over there? well.."

The snow in the Forest of Yore was never similar to what Eidolon was accustomed to. It whispered. It cried. It screamed. Underneath what may seem like a peaceful and undisturbed land, is a bloody nether filled with a seeping vigor. The energy of many souls trapped under this snow, it had always been peculiar how this snowy tundra never changed. No matter how many years after the fall of ------ this place was cursed. Slowly and over time, the essence of these now long-gone lives have begun to seep through the layers of ice and sleet.

  • “I hear it, as crazy as that sounds. I feel like it yells at me to free them, they only scream at me louder the longer I stay. I've grown used to it.”

During his stays at this tundra, an indescribable feeling comes with it. It takes more than just an unsentimental mind to get through the shallowest parts on this seemingly endless white plane. Eidolon has made it to the heart of this unchanging snow, the farther he gets from the outside of this snowfield, the closer he gets to the core of this energy, the heart. No matter how much the screams and whispers of entities who have been trapped eons ago beg Eidolon to free them, he does not fall so easily.

  • “My research resides in the land where the snow and fir trees meet, despite it being far from the snows heart. I cannot stay close to it for long, arguably, the forest is much worse than the whispering.”

He believes that the snow is the better place to be in, rather than being in the forests. Of course, he is directed to stay in between the border of the two. There are countless reasons why Eidolon believes the forest is a much more dreadful place, even if he isn’t allowed to verbally say why, he somehow gets the point across.

  • “Though it may seem like a regular snow-covered forest, I can assure you that it’s much more than a simple forest.”

When Eidolon is requested to spend a few nights at his small station, he can’t help but feel a sense of dread, though he is in no place to go against Black Swan’s orders. Since he is the only one allowed to enter so far into ------, Eidolon vaguely explains that the forest is full of illusions; full of mangled entities that shouldn’t exist. They don’t physically exist until you are aware of their presence, the researcher describes them as the voices under the snow, but there. Truly there.

  • “I suppose I can let you in on a few things. I trust that you'll keep your mouth shut. I'll know if you don't.”

Encounters with these figures are not uncommon. They hunt you down. They scream and wail. They wish to bring you down with them. To drag you down beneath the fey sheets of endless snow.

  • “I have 'countered' countless amounts of them. Though they do not stop coming, they'll keep coming back as long as the heart still beats.”

With a grand looking Glaive, he cuts through the dark matter these entities are formed from. They make wretched screams as they are cut into; every time Eidolon kills one after the other, they get reminded of their defeat eons ago, the endless feeling of blades cutting into their bodies being relived over and over. Even if they scream for an end, they do not settle. They do not accept defeat. Their bodies will be reformed, over and over, until the heart gets what it desires. He wonders if they remember him.

  • “I cannot hold any remorse for them, no matter what their history may be. The past is long gone, and one cannot change that. You cannot help them.”

These entities only reside in the forests for cover, the barren tundra reveals them too quickly. Perhaps they prefer to stay hidden in correspondence to what they had done in their last moments; hide. Hiding is all they know how to do. Hide, hide and attack the closest being that resembles an enemy no matter how weak, injured, or rotten they have become.

  • Eidolon doesn't speak often, but is perfectly capable of holding up a conversation if needed. even if he may seem dreary, he knows how to have a good time and entertain if the situation is appropriate. he keeps a few close people around, those said people seeing his more outgoing side much more than a regular person would. he knows when to keep quiet and he knows when people are excited; overall, he's a respectful guy with many ideal qualities.
once a boy, who now has grown to fit the valuable figure he is today. Eidolon had lived around snowy places all his life, only in his late teens did he move to the more populated cities to find more serious forms of work. there, he was allowed into Raison D'etre, all because Black Swan "saw something in him," and whatever she truly meant, has still yet to be revealed. he ended up quickly taking the floor and rising to the position he is in currently; the only researcher allowed into the depths of the forest and tundra. Eidolon still has lots to uncover, and yet so little time.
  • ideology & beliefs | despite being in a government-funded corporation, Eidolon doesn't have any personal opinions on the topic. he keeps quiet and lives his life; he won't let any of the sort effect him. Eidolon firmly stays neutral when it comes to anyones beliefs.
  • injuries & scars | with his body covered head-to-toe, it's hard to see any type of marking on his physique. under all those layers, his body has accumulated quite a few scars over the years of him working with Raison D'etre. Eidolon gets into many more battles with the lifeforms in the forest than you may think.

Saryan

someone he has met in the forest. Eidolon does not know why or how he got here, but he will always be on the lookout for Saryan.

vladyka

she reminds him of Black Swan. he's seen her around on multiple occasions, but every time they pass, he gets an uncomfortable feeling of familiarity.
