*(special immunities) TJ is immune to explosive and concussive forces and shock waves, flames, and sparks, as well as heavy metals and most elemental toxins, and is resistant to heat, some blunt/kinetic force, ionizing radiation, and some particulates. However he is not immune or resistant to other forms of damage such as puncture wounds or ballistic projectiles and must protect himself against shrapnel and most (non-explosive) conventional weaponry. For example, he would be immune to a concussion grenade or fireball, but not to a frag grenade or a handgun. He is also not immune to knockback or whiplash.

**(trained) TJ is trained in the use of firearms and basic self defense but is not a martial artist and does not have extensive combat training; Seth would kick his ass in hand-to-hand combat but he can hold his own in most situations. Does not actually own a gun. Most of his experience is like... Airsoft guns. Paintball. That kind of thing. But he's trained in the handling of them as if they were real guns and his family is very big on stuff like eye safety in all contexts.

About

TJ is a dishwasher who lives with his widowed mother in Spokane, Washington. He's a very average—if somewhat tall—guy with not much in the way of fashion sense, and even though he did poorly in school, he's great at math and trajectories and spends a lot of his free time doing things like making bottle rockets or setting random shit on fire. Has an encyclopedic knowledge of pyrotechnic colorants. The definition of "Dudes Rock." Does not initially guard his identity very closely; he's unimportant and average. Eventually, he'll be a little more careful, but that may just be for the aesthetic of a helmet.

TJ is, first and foremost, obnoxious. He's also surprisingly clever and a quick thinker (the better to come up with zingers), but scatterbrained, forgetful, and bad at remembering dates. Also a masochist.

Has a few piercings and tattoos (mostly DIY) hidden under his clothes. Piercings = one pubic, one dydoe, and one prince albert with a curved barbell, not a ring.

Wears prescription contact lenses. Also has a lot of little tiny scars and blemishes, because he's spent his whole life doing reckless things with fire as well as working physically demanding jobs, so he has a lot of little nicks on his hands, for example, or little tiny faded burn scars from fooling around with deodorant and open flames, or some scars on his knees. Nothing particularly major, for now.

Semi-out bisexual, most experienced with women, probably considers himself "mostly straight" or something, but likes little twinky princess boys and DILFs in addition to MILFs and alt girls; kinkster and kind of closeted about it. Also a little embarrassed to admit he's into masculine, fatherly older men.

Full name: Tyler Jackson Joseph Masterson (two middle names)

TJ also owns a very hefty 5 lb ferret named Otter, who is a black/sable "self" or solid with milk mouth coloration. He is named Otter because TJ thought he'd found an otter in their dumpster. No, just a ferret someone had decided they no longer wanted and released into the neighborhood. Undecided if TJ adopts a more normal-looking, smaller ferret named Bandit as a companion for Otter. Probably.

Powers

Molecular Manipulation
TJ can, by changing molecular structures, cause and control explosions, adjusting their radius, power, altitude, shape (blast, fireworks, etc.) trajectory, and chemical makeup including their coloration. He goes in loud and is almost purely offense.

What TJ doesn't initially realize, is that he is actually capable of manipulating chemical elements (as found on the Periodic Table) in a much broader scope than simply explosions, though he learns quickly that his powers allow him to reorganize various elements and combine them to form various molecules and substances, many of which happen to react violently or explosively. As he learns to use his powers he can also do things like extinguish flames, nullify volatile substances, split noxious compounds into less harmful constituent parts, et cetera, all by changing their molecular structures, breaking and creating bonds between elements.

In addition to coloring explosions, he can also color flames*, though he has no fine control over fire itself except for whatever he can do by manipulating its fuel source. Most of REfactor's pyrokinesis is functionally in service of explosive and pyrotechnic abilities.

*Corporeal only. Has no effect on Scratch's flames.

Note that early on TJ can only (consciously/deliberately) adjust molecular structures, and it will take a few years for him to advance. (See below)

Other uses of his molecular powers include the creation of sparks (typically accomplished by breaking molecular bonds between oxygen molecules, as the simplest and easiest way), as well as swapping the materials of two items, interfering with or contaminating sealed objects, stripping components, etc.

Transmutation and Atomic Manipulation

TJ already does this subconsciously to some extent by playing with fire or being able to breathe noxious fumes without suffocating (as long as he doesn't think too hard about it). He can, once he taps into this aspect of his abilities: convert, transmute, transform, and otherwise modify the molecular and atomic structures of various forms of matter. Early on, this is small things like subconsciously and passively converting carbon to oxygen in order to turn carbon monoxide into breatheable O2, or more consciously adding sodium to a fire, but with practice he can hypothetically do things such as turn lead into gold (or vice versa) or initiate nuclear fission chain reactions by manually splitting atoms.

Note that this does not affect phase changes; if an element would be a gas in the pressure and temperature of its location, it will usually be a gas. Or a solid, or whatever else. He could turn sulfur into mercury, but not water into ice, except in such small amounts that the ice would instantly melt anyway. The only pseudo-exceptions would be if he is using a secondary reaction to generate heat to evaporate some element or other, but that's not really him manually affecting the phase of matter.

Also note that technically TJ was already subconsciously and passively using atomic powers for toxin filtration or to make up a difference when manipulating a molecule, but conscious and deliberate atomic manipulation takes him 3-5 years to fully tap into and learn to control and is not something REfactor has active access to until the "bad timeline" events. (See character tabs)

Elemental Immunities
Undamaged by the forces from explosions—overpressure, concussion, kinetic impact? None of that bothers him (though more acute blunt force can still cause injuries). Flames? Sparks? Explosive decompression? LRAD? Flashbang? Not a problem. A particularly large explosion can still exhaust him, however, especially if he is weakened or tired from illness or overexertion.

Still damaged by shrapnel and projectiles, and the more focused a force is the more capacity for injury, especially if it is an impact with a hard object, so it is still prudent for him to protect his neck, spine, head, and vital organs.

In addition to the blunt force of explosions, TJ is immune (or at least resistant) to heavy metal poisoning, oxygen narcosis, carbon monoxide poisoning, etc. largely due to passive conversion into harmless byproducts or beneficial elements. He is also resistant to radiation sickness, heat, and some particulates.

Weaknesses

Limited Control
Cannot control the activity of a reaction; can control intensity and in some cases trajectory, by careful adjustments of composition and creative positioning, and can move or extend the fuel source of a reaction, but cannot actually make fire itself move or anything like that. His control is generally crude and relies on molecules and elements.
Shrapnel and Projectiles
While TJ is immune to explosive force, heat, and sparks, he is not immune to the debris or shrapnel, and is not immune to conventional weaponry such as knives or guns. Ballistics goggles and body armor remain important...
Prolonged Extreme Temperatures
REfactor can easily weather a fireball or blast of heat, but exposure to temperatures above or below a certain threshold for a prolonged period of time can cause him harm. He cannot catch on fire or be burnt easily, but he can still be slowly boiled to death (hypothetically).

TJ is also not immune to heat stroke from the sun or prolonged, concentrated heat (as of a brand).

Wholly Average Human Man
He has the strength, speed, stamina, and reflexes of a very normal dude, and is initially a little out of shape, though fairly active.

Needs oxygen, food, water and sleep to live just like any other human. Despite immunity to eg carbon monoxide, is not immune to oxygen deprivation if he cannot transmute, and can suffocate or be strangled.

Exhaustion
Extensive use of explosive and atomic powers or withstanding particularly large explosions, radiant heat, etc. will drain him of energy. Additionally, if he is exhausted, many of his resistances and immunities weaken due to less energy reserves for passive protection and subconscious ability usage.
Limited Radius of Effect
Initially, can use his powers within arm's reach only.

His radius gradually increases as he learns to use his powers and control them better, eventually to anything within line of sight or that he can feel with his senses (smell, taste, etc.)

Overload
TJ's abilities allow him to absorb a lot of stray energy, including radiation, kinetic, thermal, etc. which is great in terms of keeping himself and others alive! However, if TJ absorbs too much energy without any opportunity to release it in a gradual, controlled manner, he risks literally exploding, potentially entering a state of criticality or meltdown that puts both his own and others' lives at risk.
Sleep Apnea
He doesn't know about it yet, though.
Miscellaneous
Particulate irritants such as fiberglass or sawdust, or aerosols with very complex molecular and/or organic structures, can still irritate TJ's mucus membranes and cause breathing problems or other issues.

Abrasives still abrade his skin.

Knockback and whiplash can still injure TJ, despite his immunity to overpressure or similar kinds of force. If he is thrown, he may still snap his neck, suffer a concussion, or other injury if not sufficiently protected.

Abilities

Math
TJ is able to do quick calculations and trajectories in his head and on the fly, without a calculator and often without even needing paper (unless it's a complicated or unfamiliar equation).
Chemistry and Arson
Encyclopedic knowledge of accelerants and volatile elements.
Shooting
TJ is trained to use small arms (handguns) and can do so with some effectiveness, though he may not actually own a gun (except airsoft or a water pistol).
Relationships

The Psykopomp | "Enemy" (wink)
Previously known as "The Sikopomp," or, if you're TJ, "The Sicko-Pomp"; Illusionist with ability to manipulate people's nervous systems to cause fully believable systemic illusions and hallucinations. TJ has a big ol' crush on her.
Romeo and Nina | Parents
Jerome "Romeo" Masterson: Deceased. Nina Stasiuk Masterson, née Yanina Anatoliivna Stasiuk: Journalist, widow.
Kent | "Friend" (wink)
Friend with benefits; becomes one of TJ's first real friends, and also kind of a rebound booty call, much to Kent's chagrin.
