Vata Nadron

Vata Nadron is incredibly intelligent and knowledgeable in a variety of fields spanning medicine and engineering, but especially in surgery and cybernetics. He does nice things as a qualified doctor, healer and mender, but he generally comes across as grumpy, stubborn, curt and emotionally detached to most around him. As registered owner of the crews ship, the Ebon Hawk, he takes front when it comes to anything technological and medicinal! His greatest interest is in cybernetics due to their ability to improve the organic form beyond its normal capabilities. This sentiment includes himself, and he often uses his own body as the subject of experimentation. He is slowly becoming more machine than man. Vata grew up feeling inferior to the rest of his very well-accomplished family, as the youngest member of the family for most of his childhood, his age was always a great barrier between him and them. His endless ambition and self-assured nature comes from his efforts to combat this feeling of inferiority and his frustrations at living a very sheltered life that continued even after he became a qualified doctor. Most of his family were involved in war hospitals as he was a junior doctor, and Vata sought the thrill of combat that he felt he missed out on during his first few months with the current crew of the Ebon Hawk. However, he eventually found that his skills are best suited to providing support to his companions rather than putting himself in the line of fire all the time. Being the target of laser fire or a force choke no longer felt like a thrill, now it feels like a dangerous threat. Up until very recently, Vata has felt very responsible for saving everyone no matter what, believing that if he pushed himself enough and simply applied himself properly he would be able to abate any disaster and help anyone recover from even the most dire of situations. After a hallucinogenic fever dream in which he spent what felt like 400 years alone trying to stop a planet from being destroyed, he realized that some things are just unavoidable and he is in fact not able to totally negate a planet-wide disaster on his own. Forgiving himself and coming to terms with this fact is still a work in progress. He is also working on being more in touch with his needs and emotions, expressing discomfort and asking for help when he needs it. He is still a cocky bastard though, and nothing will rid him of his ambition. As part of the crew of the Ebon Hawk he has seen a lot of death and damage towards the rest of the crew who he considers to be his closest companions. Multiple encounters with the brink of and coming back from death motivates him to provide the best support and healing to his companions. He spends most of his time concocting up new healing solutions and medicinal technologies to keep everyone safe and healthy during their travels.

Here are some extra bits of information about Vata that don't fit neatly into the main description:

• Since the age of 4 Vata has been living on space stations that mainly function as universities or hospitals. He barely remembers his home planet of Shili.
  
• Due to spending so much of his life on space stations, Vata gets severely land sick whenever he goes planet-side after being on a ship for an extended period of time.
• One of the most rancid things about Vata is that he keeps any body parts that have had to be removed to be replaced with cybernetics. He takes great joy and amusement in showing new comers his large ice crate and see their faces twist up in disgust and surprise.
  
• Although the Ebon Hawk has luxury kitchen facilities, Vata's go-to meal is usually instant noodles.
• Vata's tech casting focus is a data pad that lives on his right forearm, and it largely functions as his 2nd brain. It was given to him as a graduation gift from his family, but he has since replaced and modifier almost every component. Some modifications include a biometric scanner to unlock it and access certain files, an over-the-top screen protector, and several mini-hard drives because he refuses to clean out his files. It is his own personal Ship of Theseus.
  
• Vata spends most of his free time in the med bay tinkering with new gadgets or drawing up schematics. The med bay is his laboratory space, but he has made sure it can be easily converted back into a proper med bay when needed.
• As a tech caster, most of his powers have been flavoured to be little gadgets that he has made during his free time.
  
• Vata wears a constant frown.
• His headtails are covered in small technical drawings and notes to himself so that he doesn't forget.
  
• Vata is an amputee, having lost his left hand during an explosion of his own creation while in combat with Juhani, a Jedi who will eventually join the crew of the Ebon Hawk.
• Vata has a vareity of cybernetic augmentations: a mechanical lower left arm with a deployable harpoon in the forearm, a torso replacement to strengthen his constitution against poisons, an ear implact to act as a translator, a mini-defibrillator on his chest, and a Rendcasting Inhibitor (in SW5e terms, it ups the save DC for some tech powers).
  
• After being kidnapped and tortured by the Sith for information regarding his mission, he lost one of his montrals. This sensory organ once granted him tremorsense, but he is no longer able to sense anything this way.
  

• Vata is able to reduce the cost of tech casting by taking some as reduction to his maximum HP. Power casting in SW5e is done with a pool of points, rather than spell slots in DnD 5e.
• Due to having a certain amount of cybernetic augmentations Vata counts as a droid when it comes to healing and some powers. Which means that most healing and psychic powers, especially force powers, just won't work on him.
  
• The Engineer is very much a frankensteined class combining traits from the DnD5e Artificer and Bard classes. For example, he is able to enhance weapons and armor, but he is also able to throw out inspiration die to his team mates.
