Coltin is known to be a brilliant and highly intelligent individual. Curious, often described as a free electron by his peers, he seems to have difficulty staying still and needs movement and space. He is very voluble, even when no one's around: it's not uncommon to hear him speaking alone in his laboratory, and his talkative attitude is more accentuated when he is excited, mostly because of of his research. Undoubtedly a little too teasing, he likes sarcasm, which is often either the proof that he appreciates you ... or the contrary. However, he appears generally affable and polite, a rather pleasant company, but he seems incapable of forging deep bonds. No one really know what's inside his mind, and this very unpredictable psychology is probably the reason why few people are really close to him. Having an astonishing eeditic memory, which he brilliantly uses for his studies, he nevertheless sometimes has his head in the clouds. His unalterable thirst for knowledge drives him to take an interest in everything he encounters. He undertakes many projects at the same time, showing a clear preference for chemistry, genetics, physics and military weaponry. His logic seems impersonal and is often based on a reasoned pragmatism taking into account the consequence of actions; very useful during conflicts, but sometimes judged for his choices qualified as unscrupulous and implacable. He considers that victims are inevitable, but that the choices must benefit the greatest number in the long run. Follower of the adage "the end justifies the means", qualified as cynical or even cruel for it, he does not seem to care about public opinion on this subject. He often shows many contradictions on the moral level.

He expresses regret about his past actions and his own choices, but shows little to others. His courage more easily expresses a self-destructive side than real bravery, and it has as a direct consequence that he often accepts high-risk and heavy-responsibility missions, with a desire for visible redemption.
