Fighting can't be that necessary... Right?

With the way that Burrow acts, one could make the very fair assumption that something tragic or terrible must've happened to make her so afraid of everything and everyone, to the point that if someone she's never met before were to cross her field of vision, she would instantly curl up into a ball, but the truth is she is just like that. Nothing happened to Burrow in her recent past to make her so scared, she just Is.

Burrow tends to rely on others that have the patience to get to know her and spend time with her. It takes time, due in part to her "rolling into a ball on sight" quirk, but also just because she's so very quiet and tends to not talk much even if she's familiar with the other Poke. She is capable of speaking, but tends to only speak to those who either have known her for a long time, like her family, or if they spent enough time with her and make her feel safe and comfortable. The latter is not an easy task, but one other Pokemon has done this.

As a young, skittish creature, Burrow did not tend towards meeting new Pokes easily. However, one day, when she was simply looking for berries or a soft place to sleep, she came face to face with an excitable Mudkip, who at first sight immediately tried to get to know her. Unfortunately for him, he had just come across the jumpiest Poke in the world, and as soon as the "Hello" left his mouth, she was curled up into a tight ball, her little dinky Dunsparce wings flapping intensely to roll herself away from him. Though she rolled away, the young Mudkip followed her, and laid next to her tight ball, talking softly. As silly as this Mudkip was, he knew when to be gentle with someone. And so he did! He was gentle, and understanding, and patient- it was almost like he turned a complete 180 just to make her feel comfortable around him. It took a long time, but he did finally manage to get her to stay uncurled in his presence, and as excited as it made him, he stayed calm. Burrow appreciated it a lot; no one ever really took time like this to make her feel like she was able to have a friend, and it made her get attached to the Mudkip quickly after she uncurled. This was when she learned his name was Tethys, and she took time to tell him her name.

Now travelling alongside Tethys, she is still just as quiet and skittish, but having her best friend with her as she explored the world was much more than she could have ever asked for.
