PAST
Little is is known about Kero before they joined the circus, and they rather prefer it that way. They were born and raised in America, and seemed to have come to Japan under auspicious circumstances--until those circumstances turned sour, leaving them alone in a foreign country with no support system, no place to go, and little money to their name.
JOY
Their fortunes turned for the better when they stumbled upon a small circus performing in a park. They had no tent, few props, and little faith of the small crowd that had gathered. And yet--they shined, putting on an incredible show that made Kero feel the kind of joy they thought had been out of their reach. And so they were determined: they had to join the circus.
A NEW CLOWN
Kero spent weeks following the Nakamichi circus, watching their streetshows from the sidelines. They had little else to do, after all. It didn't take long for the performers to start recognizing them, particularly Masaru, wwho began approaching them after the street shows were finished to talk. That small friendship was what pushed them into the limelight during the performer's meetup, saving the circus from humiliation and earning them a place a the Nakamichi Circus's premier clown.
MONT SAINT MICHEL
After the attack at Kuroga Village, Kero had somewhat forcefully accompanied Lise, Heima, and Ryouko to chase after Masaru--like hell they were letting those kids go on their own! Not that they were much of a protector; their fighting ability more or less amounted to throwing things at heads. And that wasn't enough against the kind of enemies they were facing. All they could do was run, run--right into one of the Les Quatre Pionniors themselves.
THE TRAIN
Once again, Kero refused to be left behind. Fou had said that the circus talents of their friends would be what could save them in a fight against automata, and though they were still a clown-in-training, they damn sure knew some tricks. They weren't going to be helpless anymore. And, perhaps, they wanted to accompany the strange automata they'd met in Mont Saint Michel.
LOSS
Bai Jin was dead. Zonapha was no longer a threat. All there was left was to grieve. There had been so many lost in the fight for the world, not least of all their newfound friends in the automata. Perhaps it was their own sentimental attachment, but Kero became determined to convince the others that they deserved to be rebuilt, to have a second chance in the world they helped save. They, along with Masaru, Shirogane, and others in the circus, formed the Automata Rehabilitation Committee (A.R.C.).
LOVE
Love blooms, even in the most unexpected of places. Once Les Quatre Pionniors had been rebuilt, Kero had spent much of their time with them to help them adjust to their new lives. In particular, they grew even closer to Arlequino, the one who had saved them back in Mont Saint Michel. Many would argue that automata could not love, but Kero would beg to differ--they are married to him now, after all.
Kero's husband, an unlikely title he is most proud to remind people of. One of the oldest automata and a member of Les Quatre Pionniors, he spent two hundred years killing and torturing humans for the benefit of his Lady Francine--only to save humanity himself in the end. It has been a long, painful road to unlearn the cruelty he so embodied, but he now happily performs as the Nakamichi Circus's star musician.
Kero has an...interesting relationship with Brighella. He is the one who caused Arlequino's destruction, not to mention how rude he is, but they have been giving a second chance to so many of the other automata, as well. Would it not be unfair not to give him another chance, as well? So they had him rebuilt as well, with Kero keeping a close eye on the martial artist. A...very close eye. A slightly homoerotic eye.
Scapino is a close friend of Kero's, and another who advocates for the automata to have a second chance. His lover, Pantalone, is another member of Les Quatre Pionniors, and they bond over their relationships with the puppets. Despite his strange powers of immortality, Kero worries about his sometimes reckless behavior.
Another close friend of Kero's, and another fond of automata--though considering he had been more or less raised in the Midnight Circus, perhaps this is less surprising. Silvio's beau is Dottore, the juggler of Les Quatre Pionniors.
