Virvyn Sedarys

Virvyn Sedarys was raised by the scholar family of Sedarys in the city of Almalexia, or Mournhold. He learned at an early age that he was not the biological child of his parents, but that his real mother had left him behind. Until the age of 24, Virvyn kept the embers of curiosity about his other real parent in check, and focused on his true passion: astronomy.

Virvyn worked as an astronomer for the temple of Almalexia, though most of the work included copying already existing religious texts about the reality of the world. Virvyn's curiosity about Mundus grew year by year. He had learned that the stars and the sun were holes in the fabric of reality from which magicka flowed to the world. Nothing specified, however, if the flow could be reversed. This question intrigued him endlessly, the idea of the primordial void pulling back what it had once given to the world, mortals and daedra alike. The Temple of course did not favour any research into this question.

By the time Virvyn hit 24 years of age, he had already started to show potent magical prowess. This was when his biological mother, Reyvaris Aldebaran Fyr, stepped to his door with a proposition. She would teach him the ways of cloak and dagger as well as magic, if he would join her on her adventures across Tamriel. Frustrated with her sudden appearance but even more frustrated with the paranoid indoctrination of the Temple, Virvyn agreed, and off they went.

One fateful night adventuring in the depths of a Nord barrow, on Virvyn's 25th birthday, Reyvaris said she was looking for a book of great power. Virvyn guessed that it was some kind of a tome relevant to Reyvaris' own brand of magic, necromancy. But once they found the book, Reyvaris did not reach out to it, but looked at Virvyn. This was Reyvaris's gift to him - one of Hermaeus Mora's Black Books she had tracked down.

While very well aware that this was not just an act of selfless motherhood but an act of morbid curiosity, Virvyn nevertheless appreciated the gift. For it opened the door for him to endless knowledge, a pact with Hermaeus Mora, and the way of the Arcanist.

The pact with Mora has opened endless doors for the now 38-year-old Virvyn. He has been able to study things about space around Nirn that no Tribunal Temple observatory would have let him. In return, he just has to record his findings and events, and file them away in the endless libraries of Apocrypha.

Through being the son of Reyvaris, Virvyn is the grandson of the great Divayth Fyr, who has barely even acknowledged Virvyn's existence. Reyvaris has encouraged Virvyn to seek audience with Fyr and perhaps rise the ladder of House Telvanni, but Virvyn finds their manner even more repressive than just that of a minor house in Mournhold.

Virvyn is the distant ancestor of the treasure hunter Ralis Sedarys, who lives and encounters Hermaeus Mora's associated dragon priest Ahzidal in the year 201 of the 4th era.
