Other Important Stuff:

{There's quite a bit here. It seems to you that this Umbra was a figure of some importance, a very long time ago... Records of ancient conflicts against dark forces and eldritch monsters are impressive, but while there's plenty of lore on his apparent great deeds, the author seems wary of speaking too much on what Umbra was like in other facets of his life. There was certainly more to him, but the book seems purposely vague...}
{Certainly he made his mark on history regardless.}

{One thing that is clear is that Umbra was a posterchild for Hypermagia; a rare magical condition that dramatically increases the power an individual has access to, though at cost. Nothing is known for certain, but Umbra's case is assumed to be congenital, and might've accounted for some of his other oddities.}

Personality:

{Judging by the notes, despite his widely lauded martial prowess, Umbra wasn't held in such high esteem in less warlike pursuits.}
{He's almost likened more to a feral beast than a civilized person... Intelligent and worthy of respect, but not someone you'd invite to a party... or inside a building at all.}
{Supposedly he was quite hostile and prone to reacting aggressively when anyone disturbed his solitude. Developing a reputation for being violent and dangerous didn't completely diminish his popularity from what you can tell, though; apparently people coming to bother him for various reasons was a fairly common occurrence. He never warmed up to it.}
{...You wonder...}

Backstory:

{It looks as if whatever was written here was either torn out of the book or literally ripped off the page...}
{The claw-marks are concerning...}

{You can make out bits and pieces, though. Umbra lived very long ago, and seems to be one of the first Solar Batamon ever hatched; born to Sidereal parents. It would explain his strength, as well as some of his temperament-- the need for lots of alone time, anyway.}

Present:

{This section is apparently left deliberately vague, as if whomever wrote this book left out the information on purpose...}
{You're not even certain whether this Umbra is dead or alive, or what killed him, if anything...}
{Seems like odd information to omit.}

.:Meta Trivia:.

-Umbra's original visual inspiration was the ElfQuest character "Blackfell"; a black wolf with gold eyes who was always drawn noticeably different from other characters. His pelt was a much deeper, richer black that other characters with darker hair, and highlighted exclusively in indigo, (when he was drawn with highlights at all), and his eyes were almost always portrayed as flat, glowing yellow, making him appear somewhat unnatural to me. More an entity than a mere wolf, even one with Elf blood. The artist clearly did this for a reason, and even if that reason was only for the Rule of Cool, it certainly worked for me as a teen, and I knew I needed some sort of wild, jet-black puff who was just as mysterious and sleek.
