TL;DR: pre-war, momma's boy from poor irish family, second eldest of four, alcoholic dad belted him, got drafted, sidelined for several years for being a weenie until he finally got deployed, got kneecapped and sent back home to be sad until the bombs dropped and fallout 4 timeline engaged. but with none of the wife or kid story.
he falls for piper and has a...situationship with deacon on the side (piper gave him a permission slip she's chill like that) bc he's super normal. friends w/ nick and preston (and dogmeat ofc), has a sorta bro rivalry w/ maccready but it's silly guy stuff. pro-railroad, anti-brotherhood, anti-institute. cool w/ synths, unsettled by ghouls but he gets better.
