Maya Kato

"Oh, I don't look like much? I could ruin your life with one phone call."

Maya grew up as the 'unwanted' child of her father's second marriage. Her mother had no interest in having a child and paid no attention to her, and her father was more interested in raising her half-brother to be the heir to his company. Despite this, she harbored no hatred towards her brother Jay, and in fact the two of them became close. Jay was often incredibly protective of her, and she was for him as well, however she was much more underhanded about it. She refused to be separated from him when their father pushed, and ended up being dragged into the family business as well. She saw how her father treated both his employees and his children, and vowed never to be like him. She and Jay agreed to inherit the business and make it a better place, and she developed a mentality of 'the end justifies the means.' She would do anything to achieve the goal they set, so long as it wouldn't directly affect those she cares about.

In college, Maya had a time of finding herself and of personal freedoms. She discovered her love of metal music and the occult, and in doing so made friends with Henry. When she realized his powers were the real deal, she became even more obsessed with the ideas of ghosts and witches. However, she saw how moral and just Henry was despite all the ways he could have made himself successful, and realized her methods were a little harsh. She decided to tone down her 'end justifies the means' approach, however she still retains some of her ruthless tendencies here and there. When she graduated, her father passed away, and Jay inherited the company. He offered her a position as COO, which she turned down so she could remain out of the eyes of the media and other business, and conduct her own business in private. Instead, she took a posiiton as Jay's Executive Assistant and made herself look harmless.

Some time back during college, she eventually discovered Jay's relationship with Adrian, his then boyfriend. She was appalled at how Adrian treated her brother and attempted many things to get them to break up, none of which worked. Not long after she began working for him however, Jay finally broke off the relationship. For a while everything seemed good, only for Jay to turn up haunted. She immediately referred him to her best friend Henry, hoping for Henry to have a solution. When Henry uncovered a plot much larger than anybody expected, she vowed to do whatever she could to help. After everything was over and done, and she realized Henry and Jay were dating, she felt a lot more at ease knowing her brother was happy with somebody who would be good for him.
