Champagne Diamond

Her subjects would call her a saint, a liberator- her colony, Utopia. Champagne's colony is a safe haven for fusions, off colors, and gem oddities of all sorts. They are not only accepted but ENCOURAGED to live freely and outside the box. No one even wears a uniform, they choose their own appearance. 

Champagne Diamond was the fifth member of the Great Diamond Authority. She was created after White, Yellow and Blue, but before Pink. Therefore, she was like Pink's elder sister, and was often tasked with watching Pink. When Pink began demanding her own colony, the other diamonds agreed she could inherit Earth as her very first kindergarten site. Champagne was viewed as the most studied of the diamonds, focusing her efforts on research. Thus, she sent her Morganites to survey the area and insure it was suitable for Pink before they finalized plans. At the end of the survey when results returned positive, Champagne Diamond herself inspected the planet. There, she was intrigued by the local lifeforms, and elongated her stay to collect all the research she could before the planet began suffering from Kindergarten damage. She shapeshifted to a form more closely resembling the size of a human for closest study. Except, during her stay, she met a human man, who convinced her to have relations with him. She didn't know the consequences at the time, but she became pregnant. She never anticipated what would happen to her when it was time for the baby to be born. Anticipating a change, she brought the man back, and demanded answers. Albeit stunned to learn he would become a father, and boggled at the concept of alien life, he cooparated with the Morganites as much as he was able. No one anticipated, though that Champagne would BECOME the baby, until the day it happened. Her pearl, aghast, took her away from her father and directly to the head of the Morganite Research Team. They left the planet immediately and returned to Champagne's colony. The man was devastated. He had wanted to call her Nora.

The Morganites, previously tasked with studying human life, refocused their efforts to taking care of the hybrid. Meanwhile, another trusted member of the court and a talented shapeshifter was hired to put on the face of Champagne Diamond when absolutely necessary, and her Pearl tasked with keeping the colony running- and unawares that their Diamond was gone. The morganites raised the hybrid Diamond child, training her all her life to resume command. She was fully aware of her mother's position, her own origins and the colony she would grow to rule. Unfortunately, she stopped growing much sooner than the Morganites anticipated, reaching not even half the height of her predecessor. Luckily, the child was already the spitting image of her mother, so size was the only issue. Despite their best efforts, the Morganites' research and experimenting could not stimulate further growth. HOWEVER, they were able to increase her shapeshifting capacity by performing the VERY risky operation of re-cutting her gem, so that it could focus more light. After the procedure, Champagne was able to shapeshift to approximately her mother's height and adjust the few minor features that were different. She could fool her subjects, and even the other diamonds into believing nothing had changed. 

After she resumed rule, however, her first action was to withdraw from the Great Diamond Authority, claiming their rule oppressive and unjust. She beckoned all off-colors to abandon their diamonds and come under her rule. This enraged the other diamonds, but she had withdrawn too quickly for them to speak directly to her. After decades of failed communication, they eventually disowned her and attempted to erase her from all records. Unfortunately for the Diamond Authority, this had the opposite effect, as legends and rumors of the Off-Color colony spread through homeworld's underground, providing hope to the rejected gems. Champagne Diamond's colony became a beacon for immigrants, and those that found their way to her were welcomed. Pink was the only one she ever maintained contact with, albeit limited, due to Champagne's mother's former relationship with her and Pink's newfound compassion for the humans.

Receding from the Authority was not a popular decision among her court at first, until she explained her reasoning to the Morganites. Put plainly, she was curious about her hybrid origins, and wanted to learn more. What could they stand to learn from researching those few, valuable oddity off-colors? The Morganites were to head up an entire new department, completely dedicated to off-colors, hybrids, and all forms of gem misformations. Regulations on Champagne's own Kindergartens slacked, allowing gems to form naturally, resulting in more and more off-colors. Her subjects were encouraged to volunteer for the Morganites' experimentation programs. Propoganda spread like wildfire that it was an honorable service to the colony to do so. Most were happy with the arrangement. Once the Gem War broke out and they discovered the corrupted gems, they too were brought into the experiments. Some were rehabilitated to the point they regained sentience, and re-entered the colony. At the news of Pink's shattering, however, Champagne began to lose the compassion that once bound her and Pink. 

As the years grew on, the experiments yeilded fewer results, and Champagne had distanced herself from the consequences of the work they did. Experiments became more aggressive, and they were kept secret. Not even Champagne's Pearl was privy to such things. Her Morganites had become her most trusted subjects over the centuries, as they performed even the most brutal and unethical of the experiments. They lived under the strictest standards and were closely monitored, but also are the most highly esteemed, second only to their diamond herself. They even outrank Sapphires, regardless of their rarity. One Sapphire, however, was brought into the exclusive circle. The Morganites reasoned a Sapphire's assistance would prove invaluable and raise their success rate exponentially. They selected Champagne Diamond's most trusted Sapphire for the job. Upon her briefing however, Champagne Sapphire not only suffered psycological damage to the new possible futures opened to her, but threatened to expose their unethical practices. She was quickly imprisoned, and forced against her will to predict possible outcomes of the experiments. Two pearls and a tourmaline as well, were unwillingly dragged into the mess to become her emotional support in a feeble attempt to stabilize her psychological state. Champagne Sapphire was subjected to experiments herself in attempts to undo the damage and make her more compliant. They all failed. 

The majority of Champagne's subjects live in blissful ignorance, still believing her a just, kind and compassionate ruler.
