Derek the Hedgehog

PERSONALITY

Derek is, to be blunt, the "Tails" of Team Rainbow. He has supreme intellect, and is excellent with inventing, technology, and machinery. Derek is very much a loner, and prefers to be left to his own devices. He doesn't mind a little company from time to time, but if there's too many people around then he can't focus on anything. He has a rather broad vocabulary due to his reading of so many books. Derek knows his knowledge, and uses it to his advantages. He's clever and sharp-witted, and can read others pretty easily. However, sometimes, he lets this go to his head, and can act very egotistical. Due to isolation, Derek is rather poor with social interaction, and never knows how to properly communicate with others. He can interact with Dani and Maggie just fine, and knows how to put on a cocky, confident attitude in front of his rivals, but it pretty much ends there. He's often a nervous wreck in conversation, and can work much better with others if he isn't forced to talk. Derek is very impatient, and doesn't like to wait around for others. The only person he makes an exception to is Dani. He tries to be as patient with her as he possibly can. Derek is smart and perceptive, but poor with communication.

SKILLS / POWERS

Roller skating - Derek loves roller skating and has done it so often that he's much more balanced and moves more freely in them than the average person would.
High intellect - Derek is incredibly smart and he is well aware of this fact. He's let it consume his ego many many times.
Inventing and engineering - Derek is a prolific inventor and engineer. Perhaps not as well known as Tails is, but Derek has a sizable portfolio of brilliant machines, some he even uses in his daily life.
Usage of explosives - Derek has mastered effective use of explosives and always administers them in battle with the best safety precautions. He rarely misses a target.

TRIVIA

Derek is labeled as a flight-type character because he has multiple inventions of his that help him to fly. He's built in rocket exhausts into his red and green roller skates to help propel him in the air give him the ability to fly.
Derek always comes into battle wearing a coffee brown neckerchief and his roller skates. Sometimes he pulls up his neckerchief over his muzzle and bombs obstacles that stand in his way. His use of explosives often proves useful when Team Rainbow is engaged in missions or battles.
He has a rivalry with Tails due to the both of them being the inventors of their respective teams.
Derek has a sibling-type relationship with Maggie and treats her like a younger sister, and Dani is his best friend overall.
When I originally created him, Derek was more of a joke character than anything - an unoriginal recolor of Shadow. Over time however he's become his own character. I've never quite gotten rid of the "unoriginal" aspects of his character because I feel they give his design charm.
Derek isn't very good at driving vehicles or piloting planes.
Derek lives in a treehouse that he built entirely himself.
