wandering warrior, aspires to be an experienced househusband someday!  unfortunately, he's cringefail at everything that entails that. despite his best efforts, he's not great at cleaning and is even more horrendous of a cook. however he is otherwise an adept fighter, a friend to most, and an endearing lover. has S-tier emotional intelligence but D-tier everything else intelligence. has little idea how traumatized he actually is. believes that somehow, some way, someday, and with someone, he will finally make the stable home he's always dreamed of.

Adventures Thus Far

Jinba hitched a ride from Limsa Lominsa to Gridania, making it his first time ever leaving the nation-state and also the start of his many adventures.

Early into exploring the Central Shroud, he encounters a duskwight witch who calls herself Niime. The witch is completely taken off guard by the lad's openness and friendliness. After clearing a dreadgaze infestation crowded around her home out in the woods, she allows Jinba to camp with her for that night. He marks her as her first friend he's met while out adventuring.

During his first year of adventuring, he helps a village in Coerthas deal with a wolf problem. Despite receiving some bite and claw scars from that, he handles it. He is completely unaware of the local Ishgardian's preconceptions of au ra and writes it off as them being very private people. He extends this to the fact that nobody really helped him after getting injured, despite helping with the wolf issue. Fortunately a visiting hyur helped to patch him up.

After a year of adventuring, he returns to Limsa Lominsa to make a brief visit. He first runs into a woman by the name of Anzu, who he rescues from a frenzied crab. He helps walk her to the entrance of Limsa and learns about her workplace: The Novel Tea Inn.

He next catches up with his best friend Ahtblyss, a sea wolf rogue. He discovers that his friend has been having a strong hankering for seeing what's out there, so Jinba invites him to go on adventures with him. This marks the beginning of the two adventuring together.

The duo start it slow by staying just outside of Limsa at first. They find a young courier who tripped and sprained her ankle while on the way to a very urgent delivery. Ahtblyss and Jinba offer to deliver the letter for her at the Summerford Farms. Turns out its a letter asking to cancel a large order of orange juice. Laughing it off and making light of the situation, the lads offer to take it off the farms' hands. They drink well that day.

While stopping in Wineport, Jinba meets up with an acquaintance named Hiko at the local winery. He catches up with the detective, who he already admires for her cool and kind nature. Their conversation is interrupted as a rowdy sea wolf shoves Jinba aside on his chair, claiming the spot to be hers. In defense of Jinba getting bullied, Hiko meets this sea wolf - Wynhidla - in a confrontation. A bar fight breaks out, leading to Jinba and Hiko being alongside each other in combat for the first time. With teamwork, the two eventually disarm Wynhidla and her gang just enough to convince her to go elsewhere. Hiko feels relieved to watch Jinba fight with defensive purpose as opposed to mindless killing. Jinba is utterly star-struck by Hiko's combat style of her using a (at the time improvised) shield. Jinba asks Hiko to teach him the ways of shield-fighting, which while Hiko is surprised and nervous about her performance, she eventually agrees to. She invites him to seek her out when him and Ahtblyss eventually make it to Thanalan.

Ahtblyss is ready to move beyond Limsa Lominsa, but first the two take a break in Costa del Sol. Jinba and him chat over some steamed fish cooked over the fire. The chat is cordial as it usually is, but the two share their mutually melancholy thoughts about romance. Namely about how the two lament how easy it is to find bed-fellows, but how hard it is to find a soulmate.

Jinba and Ahtblyss make their long-anticipated arrival to Ul'dah, with the hopes of exploring and adventuring around Thanalan. The two get many first-hand experiences of the guile in the golden city. Ahtblyss helps Jinba navigate through foreigner tax and getting pickpocketed - all of which he is none the wiser to.

Jinba and Ahtblyss arrive at The Novel Tea Inn, where they enjoy a night of relative luxury. They get to further befriend Hiko and also meet one of the co-founders, Ati. It is discovered that Ati is the ex-fiancee and acquaintance of Jinba's older sister, Shara, who he hasn't seen for several years. Jinba finds out that she currently works at the Gold Saucer and is determined to pay her a visit. He and Ahtblyss are also tasked to deliver a letter on Ati's behalf essentially telling the Mandervilles to fuck off.

Jinba has his first shield-fighting lesson with Hiko in Thanalan. She first teaches him about the fundamentals of simply holding a shield and being in the right stance for it. He struggles initially, having trouble with thinking different from his usual weapon of the lance. After some goofs, his determination and his previous combat experience helps him understand the correct stance. They continue their training together and Jinba shows some decent promise in becoming a competent shield warrior.

Jinba and Ahtblyss continue their adventuring into Thanalan. They spend an initially uneventful night in Camp Drybone. An amalj'aa shepherd by the name of Ojik'boh seeks nearby adventurers for help, and the duo answer the call. The herder's nanny was kidnapped by poachers, and the two successfully took down the bandits to retrieve the giant goat. Ojik'boh thanked their efforts by offering some cool water and homemade goat cheese.

On the way to the next destination, Jinba runs into Anzu again whose chocobo cart has broken down. She sits and waits with him at his camp where they catch up. They talk about their mutual dream of finding their soulmate.

Jinba catches up with Anzu at The Novel Tea Inn, chatting while having lunch. They each talk about their families and reasons for doing what they do. Anzu tells of how she likes to make her own money despite having a loving and rich family, whereas Jinba alludes to pursuing adventuring out of necessity. Anzu brings up the topic of therapy, which Jinba learns about for the first time.

Backstory (CW for neglect and squalor)

Jinba was born as the 2nd and youngest child to two Xaelic parents who immigrated to Limsa Lominsa. His father was a stay-at-home househusband while his mother made her living as an adventurer. Jinba also had a sister born a few years before him by the name of Shara. Due to complications with the relationship and their new life in Eorzea, Jinba's father left the family. Now left to continue raising two children while balancing a dangerous life of adventuring, Jinba's mother took on the task.

But in her scrambling, the children were affected. Both the loss of her relationship and the nature of her work caused her to neglect her children in many ways, namely emotionally and in manners of their living condition. While she was making a decent living working for the local adventuring guild, she spent little time caring for her home. As a result, Jinba and Shara grew up in squalor. Many of their formative years were spent in dirt, piles of hoarded treasures, and infestation after infestation of pests of all kinds. Both children were taught the ways of combat as a means to ward off the most powerful hordes of pests.

Shara, who was still well-accustomed to the proper care from her father, knew that this was wrong and started growing animosity for her mother. Jinba however, who was younger, remained ignorant and did not realize the gravity of his living situation for many years to come.

As soon as she was able to, Shara fled from home in her older teens, leaving only a farewell note. This gave Shara freedom to live a happier life and for her to be her true self, however life would only get worse for Jinba and his mother at this point. With neither wanting to lose anyone further, the two became more and more dependent on each other. Despite any possible intentions, this led to their relationship becoming less like a family and more like toxic roommates. Jinba starts to get inklings that something is wrong as his mother treats him with a strange mixture of spoiling and callousness.

Upon hearing the news of the Calamity, Jinba was in a full panic and wanted to assure everything he could to get him and his mother to a safe place. But being fully resigned to her mindset and hardened severely by her years in combat, Jinba's mother insisted that it was not a true calamity and that there would be nothing to worry about. Fortunately for both of their lives, their home was mostly unscathed by the impact of Dalamud and the two were well-seasoned in their battle capabilities to defend against the threat of aetherically enhanced beasts.

After the Calamity however, Jinba came to the realization that he did not want to possibly die in a place like this. He cared for his mother, and she cared for him, but it's possible that they simply did not love each other. Not really. Feeling cowardly, he repeats what his sister did before him and flees from home, leaving nothing but a farewell letter.

Now a wandering adventurer, Jinba treks from path to sea in hopes to pave out his truth. Not just who he is, but to also create a safer and better home for himself. Someday he would like to better understand what he went through and to evolve from his beginnings. Someday, he will be part of a happy family, where he dreams to be someone's househusband. But for now, he is simply taking one step at a time.
