Nightwraiths

Recently made a refsheet for the Nightwraiths, one of the more dangerous species found in Rostnia.

Nightwraiths are excellent predators, built to stalk and kill their prey. They have serrated teeth and claws, designed to tear flesh off of the bones of their prey. With an impressive bite strength, they are even capable of snapping bones in half! Nightwraiths are covered in thin, wiry hair, which allows light to pass through them at certain angles. Using their coloration and this "light-shedding" ability, Nightwraiths can become nearly invisible will standing still or stalking their prey. Nightwraiths are rather intelligent and have an impressive amount of stamina. The most powerful ability that Nightwraiths posses is their venomous bite, which acts slowly to paralyze their prey while inducing an adrenaline response. They are about the size of a cougar.

Nightwraiths are also known as Reapers or Fearstalkers due to their hunting methods, which induce as much fear as possible in its prey. After finding its prey, a Nightwraith gets as close as possible before biting its quarry. After biting its prey, it lets go and unleashes a blood-curdling skrill. This skrill serves to terrify the prey and begins the chase. While the paralyzing venom from the bite works slowly, it also serves to induce an adrenaline response in the prey. A Nightwraith will chase its prey for hours, toying with it as long as possible and "encouraging" it to keep fleeing using its "blades". Once the prey is slowed sufficiently due to the venom, exhaustion, and/or blood loss, it collapses. At this point, the Nighwraith unleashes a final skrill and eats its prey alive, often returning over the course of multiple days until the corpse has been finished. Crows and vultures avoid Nightwraith kills, as a Nightwraith will even use its kill as bait, hoping for a quick snack.

Nightwraiths are typically found in temperate, rocky locations, but have been found as far as the Western Sea and the Southern Realms. Nightwraiths tend to feed on mountain goats, deer, and fish, but have been known to hunt larger creatures such as bear and cougars as well.  They are rare, solitary creatures constantly on the move. However, when food is scarce or extremely plentiful, Nightwraiths band together in large groups and become capable of taking on dragons, ichneumons, and other Rostnian apex predators due to highly effective pack tactics. Nightwraiths communicate using series of clicks and whistles, as they have no vocal cords.

Prior to the Rostnian storyline, Nightwraiths attacked Keira's family during a drought, killing her mother and separating Keira and Krypto.
