innards

witty . kind . loyal

Lynxshade values loyalty the most. She puts her faith in her clanmates, and being in Shadowclan has helped her gain the confidence she once lacked. She's clever and uses her intelligence both in social life and in strategy. She likes to dive in deep, significant conversations rather than small chitchats of every day. She would give her life for her clanmates, especially for those she loves the most. Even though she might come off as cold sometimes, she can show much kindness than one could ever imagine this cat has.

She likes to show kindness but not looking too soft. She prefers to be seen as a tough, strong cat who knows how to take care of things and of herself, but when someone is in danger or in need she won't hesitate into helping, maybe just with a couple of gentle words of comfort.

She's intelligent, and prefers wits over strenght. Having grown outside as wild lonely cats, it was difficult to survive and she had to rely on her brain as well as her muscles.

fierce . solemn . reserved

Lynxshade doesn't have problems in communicating and living her social life in the clan, but she's also quite reserved and doesn't like talking about herself, especially her past. If she decides to speak, her words will bring meaning and she can be quite charismatic at the time. She's not scared to do it, and if the situation requires it she can become extremely fierce and use her voice to claim attention.

She takes her role very seriously and is an utmost responsible warrior in Shadowclan, always looking to do the right thing for her clan. Death has a special meaning to her; that's why, unlike most Shadowclan cats, she won't use it at her advantage without any care.

insecure . gloomy . regretful

Due to sad accidents of her past, Lynxshade had grown quite closed in herself and secretly insecure of her abilities. This might seem contradictory, but she blamed herself for all the deaths that happened in her life and for the fact that she couldn't prevent them from happening. This sense of helplessness still pursues her in her day life and in her nightmares, which is why she might sometimes look gloomy and introvert.

Sometimes she gets caught in memories, like black and white flashbacks of her past where emotions can flood her and let her live specific moments once again. She doesn't forgive easily her own mistakes, which is why at her age she has already many big regrets. However, this sense of insecurity has grown less and less strong as she gained confidence as a Shadowclan Enforcer.

the lore

Kithood. . .

Lynxhshade and Tigersun were born from Sunny and Shadewind in a cold afternoon of Leafbare. Although weak, the two kits were well cared for by family and they had two lovely parents who provided them with a flawless education and much love. Their name, unknowingly to Lynxshade, were chosen by their father. Her and Tigersun were very attached to each other, especially because there weren't any other kits to play with. At 2 moons of age, greencough brought Sunny away from the little family. Although Shadewind loved his kits very much, he wasn’t able to accept and go over his mate’s death and drowned himself in daily life duties, spending less and less time with his kits as he tried to forget the pain of death.

Lynxshade was a rather shy kit. In any case, the family used to do all it could to avoid other cats and often changed location to avoid such encounter: they were wanderers. This was even truer after Shadewind got distant, leaving the two kits to fend for themselves, often with her uncle Cloudedstripe to keep an eye on them. As their father grew every day colder toward them, Tigersun and Lynxshade matured a way of taking care of each other as if they were their only family members. Tigersun especially took control of many situations, guiding her sister in everyday life and making sure she had everything she needed.

Youth. . .

Lynxshade had grown into a beautiful, slender cat with a brilliant personality but a cold attitude toward the external world in general. Her uncle, Cloudedstripe, was a rather old and wise cat who had followed Lynxshade through her growth and knew why the she-cat had become such an introverted cat. He was a patient and talented teacher, who taught Lynxpaw not only how to survive as a wild cat and defend her home, but also how to manage her emotions and mature with moons and moons of training. Lynxshade and Tigersun grew even more attached to each other during this period, going out together in expeditions to hunt frogs, lizard and little birds together, and playing with tracks of other animals in the forest. Tigersun seemed to have been born a natural leader, while she limited herself on following him as if she didn't need otherwise. This might have put her in a lower position, but Cloudedstripe knew Lynxpaw well and he believed in her like no one else did; he made the impossible to make her confidence grow and make her see how much talented she was, not so unlike her brother as she thought she was. Her learning went smoothly and pretty fast. She was a skilled hunter and a natural-born defender; learning was easy, but Lynxshade couldn’t shake the dark feelings of the past off his pelt: she couldn’t forget that his father didn’t care about them anymore, and so she didn’t trust her skills enough to make herself shine as Tigersun did.

One day, a terrible accident breaks Lynxshade’s world in half. At 10 moons old a coyote breaks into family’s current territory and finds the she-cat and her uncle in the forest. Cloudedstripe fought alone the canine, ordering her to stay back and seek shelter. Lynxshade hesitated at that moment; his uncle had always been stern and she’d always been loyal and obedient to him. What was the right thing to do? The answer came just as a terrible shriek revealed that the coyote had grabbed Cloudedstripe’s body by his back; the cat trashed wildly, unable to make any move to free himself. At that moment Lynxshade came to his help, and together they fought off the canine until it left the lands. That day the young she-cat earned a scar on her muzzle, and his uncle was gravely injured so that he was forced to remain hidden in their den until his death, after a couple of days spent in agony. Lynxshade will never forget that day and the hesitation that cost Cloudedstripe his life. After that, his father decided to try and take care of the couple for the short rest of their youth, but their bond was nothing like that she’d created with Cloudedstripe and she grew even colder and reserved toward him.

Warriorhood. . .

Soon, Lynxshade and Tigersun became adult young cats. Tigersun had excelled as well as her in their training, and both the two cats were ready to take care at themselves at 15 moons old. Tigersun had been named after her mother and the brilliant sun of new-leaf that seemed to run in his veins, even though he was born in the coldest of seasons. He’d grown into a strong, confident tom that Lynxshade couldn't help but look up to. Lynxshade’s name, on the other hand, reflected her reservedness and was a constant reminder to their father's own name. Was it a reference from him, the cat she’d grown to distrust so much in her life, or the fact that she looked so different from Tigersun? If his brother was a shiny star, she was his silent shadow. Might it be referred to her hunting and fighting abilities, for she was as stealthy as a fox? She could never find an ultimate answer to that.

Unfortunately, one day the woods were hit by a firestorm that destroyed their home and forced the three to leave once again. The family had always been cautious, but no one could have ever imagined a fire of such dimensions and speed of spread. In the terrible smoke, they split up and she found herself running away with Tigersun toward the unknown. Their whole home was burning down, and they were totally alone. The forest was falling down in pieces. As Tigersun tried to lead Lynxshade away from the danger, he was struck by a falling trunk and died immediately before reaching a river that would save Lynxshade from certain death. It was a day she would never forget, and that would always taunt her in her deepest nightmares.

When Lynxshade woke up, she found her home completely destroyed and her clan shattered. Weak from exhaustion, she searched for her father but found no bodies and no hints that could lead her to him. She decided then to walk away from the rests of the charred woods and wander without a destination, until she reached the home of four new clans of wild cats. She decided to join the first clan she came across, and so she became a Shadowclan cat. But her clanmates never knew Lynxshade's past and the trauma that she suffered before leaving. A lonely soul, a white shadow. Lynxshade learnt the ways of Shadowclan, but never really fit in until she met Nightshiver and Hawkbite.

Lynxshade's abilities came in hand when she was tested by Dawnstar herself upon joining Shadowclan. The she-cat found the clan life a thriving version of her past life, and so she spent moons joining patrols and collecting prey from her clanmates, learning the way of Shadowclan and how to fit in such a large group of cats. She also acknowledge the lack of good mentors and decides to take her own apprentice, Thornpaw, using her uncle's memories to become herself a decent teacher.
At 29 moons she finds a hint that will lead her to discover the old coyote's home just outside of her new territory. The coyote, just like any other animal in Lynxshade's past home, had fled the forest during the fire that destroyed it and relocated itself in the same area as her. She trained and wandered each day outside Shadowclan's territory to find the exact position of the coyote's cave, and when she was ready she confronted it in an open fight where an Enforcer, Darkfall, joined and helped her to kill it for good. The coyote had grown stronger other than older, and the fight was vicious. Lynxshade lost her tail for a terrible bite but managed to give it the final attack.
At a certain point, things escalate between Shadowclan and Thunderclan and her clan forms a temporary allegiance with Windclan. Things are coming close to a war, and Lynxshade finally understands the real price of living with so many other cats in few territories so close to each other. On the verge of invading Thunderclan, Shadowclan had to deal with a family of lynxes who had settled down in Shadowclan territory. After they left, a mink invasion forced Shadowclan to ally with Windclan and fight together against the wild enemies, earing a well-deserved victory that will, however, bring changes to the way Dawnstar ruled Shadowclan.

  • Does your character have a deep and/or dark secret? If so, what is it?
Lynxshade didn't stay back from the coyote because of his mentor's order, but because she was too terrified to act. She blames herself for Cloudedstripe's death for not having acted quickly enough.
  • How would your character define love?
Love is... protecting someone with your own life. Giving them all your trust. Entrusting them all of you, and going through the hardest times together. Sharing your most beautiful memories together.
  • Which one of the five senses is most important to her?
Hearing. She knows it is a cat's best friend, even more than smell.
  • Why do all they have clan names?
Although they do not change suffix through their growth, Lynxshade's family members, except her mother, all have clan names. It is tradition to pass on part of the parents' names to the kits, but it is unknown to Lynxshade why their names are so similar to those of the clan cats. The hidden answer is: her father's parents were actually clan cats, and they never changed names when they became outsiders, deciding to give also clan cats name to their prole.
