There are two types of harpies, Primal and Modern. Doris is a Modern-type. She retains some of the bloodlust and destructive attitude of her ancestors, but she does have a gentle heart somewhere under all that fluff and posturing. She's not one for wasting food, either; she'll feast on carrion and then use the skin for taxidermy just because it's cool.
