-raised with her parents. Her mom is a cop and Dad a doctor. Despite both having very well looked upon jobs, they always tried to encourage otto to be his own person: without saying it of course bc dads = bad at relating heartfelt message and cop mom = struggles to love her son like a mom instead of a cop so the message is often lost in cop metaphors[she means well]
-ironically Otto , like may other spidermen was instantly drawn to science and has a knack for it too. Socially, think of him as the nerd everyone actually likes instead of the common highschool cliche. Their Friends often get thrown the occasional “fact that Otto thought was common knowledge but is actually a fact only high end professionals would know” and will always joke abt how they forget that she’s smart in a buddy buddy way because again- it’s not the cliche highschool movie from Disney 🤭
-freshmen year this idiot gets bit. He of course signed up for as many advanced science classes that he could squeeze himself into, and some of these classes were able to do some pretty fun experiments. Well one particular class got the chance to observe a few insects that have been experimented on and genetically changed by a very professional scientist group that aims to enhance the features in whatever insect that makes their survival rate higher [so basically all theyer cool abilities] amongst about six of insects, there was a spider. And of course the spider was sent to Otto and his school project group. Well, uncaring classmates + looking away from the semi open box for like one second leads to a bit of an accident. Uh oh he got bit. Out of embarrassment and not wanting a whole bunch of scientists up his ass for being bit by a spider they worked on: he told nobody.
-The transformation process for her was- rough. She was definitely freaked out when she could suddenly see very well without her glasses: like even more than human people, grew a few inches and also gained a ton of muscle?? Panic central. But hey- maybe she just- had a growth Spurt right?? Welp when she gets home and jumps up a little to reach something on a taller shelf in her room and suddenly she blasts herself into the ceiling full force leaving a dent she starts to suspect smthins- off.
-Since she isn’t an anomaly he does no escape the good ol Spider-Man trauma. Her mom gets promoted to chief officer, and of course that’s the same day that Otto learned she couldn’t always save everyone. Do you know that science lab that so generously donated those insects? Well, they tried to move on to bigger beings and it went south. A very large, angry mutated lizard was terrorizing the town. Otto was a second too late getting to her mom. She was killed from a pillar knocked down my the lizards tail after Otto defeated it.
- he blames her death on himself. If only he hadn’t of killed it, the lizard tail would’ve never hit that pillar while it was going down and his mom would still be alive that’s what he told himself. His dad was left to raise Otto on his own. It’s not perfect and they’d have a big fight or two after her death, but ultimately, it only made their bond stronger. For a while, Otto found it hard to be around his father, considering that he was still blaming himself for her death but his dad unknowingly helped him a lot, he said, regardless of what happened that heroes like the jumping spider were needed, and held the mentality that without those heroes, there would be more death. And it helped Otto a lot.
