He lives at the same laboratory as Goops and Spike, and Zenos is an actual lab experiment subject, just like Goops.
This ink-like substance covers his wings, claws, ears, and tail. It's basically like ink but much thicker and gooier.
They can write with their fountain pen-shaped tail as if it were a normal fountain pen.
