He was made in a lab when scientists accidentally spliced the DNA of a pug with the DNA of a tomato. Thus creating a pug-mato.
He is viewed more as a pet around the lab facility, unlike Goops who is an actual lab experiment.
Spike and Goops are good friends and Spike has tried to break Goops out of the facility many times (and succeeded in the end).
He is a pretty energetic and playful boy that enjoys simple things in life (like food and sleeping)
