About

Why ask how I've been? Am I not the same as always?

From the moment One came into existence, they knew how their world would end.

The weight of such a revelation, brought on far too soon, was too much to bear, and the price they paid to hold it was their emotions. One is… empty. They are able to tell what they find comfortable and what they don’t, but that is the extent of their emotional capability.
When their creator eventually got destroyed, dooming their home and sending them all running to another world, they felt neither fear, nor sorrow.

This isn’t right. They should be able to grieve.
That thought was what led them to hand themselves over to science, hoping that in the process of studying them, the researchers would find a way to make them whole as they should be.

Trivia

  • Despite not feeling much of anything, they understand the emotions of others very well. They're like an empty glass, easily filled up by the emotions of others—but they're very aware that they aren't their own. It's empathy without sympathy.
  • Because everyone at the facility knows they're there voluntarily and that they'll always return, they have a lot of freedom, able to leave whenever they want.
  • Very philosophical, but not in a condescending way. Like the wise old master trope in media, others don't get tired of listening to them easily. They're always willing to give advice.
  • They find crowded places uncomfortable, so it's rare they go outside.
  • Doesn't care what others call them, but they call themselves One.

Numb - Meg Myers

February

Always coming to visit them, even now. Why does he bother, when they can't give him favorable news? Oh, well. It's not like it matters much.

March

Always one of the noisiest free spirits back home, it's strange to see him running around like a headless chicken now.

December

The Beginning and The End, similar, yet different. It's clear that she feels uncomfortable around them and they don't blame her.
