About:

Luis is the eldest son of the Thornwell family and grew up in nobility, though was always at odds with his father due to his lack of magical ability. The Thornwell family is made up near entirely of skilled necromancers, with Luis being the first in a long while to have zero capability of utilizing any form of magic. As such, he was seen as worthless and a failure by his father, Lothar Thornwell, and the perks of being a young noble were pretty thoroughly ruined by his father's treatment and demeanor towards him. Despite all his efforts to pick up necromancy, he just was not capable of it, and eventually was disowned from the family at a young age. Lothar solely made this choice, it was not a "family decision".

Around the age of 15, he made his way to Lion's Arch after he'd been disowned and kicked from his family's estate in Divinity's Reach. A pirate crew took him in and offered him food and shelter if he would do some work for them, he took up this fine offer and stayed with this crew for a good few years. The pirate crew started him out as an errand/mail boy, using him to pass info/notes/threats to other folks among the city of pirates, or do little favors for the crew and "friends" (he stacked wood for one of the pirates' mothers once. those sorts of weird little tasks. errand child.). He'd always stay in the city when part of the crew was out at sea, all because the first (and last) time they took him aboard the ship things went horribly wrong. They did also teach him all about maintenance and use of cannons. Through his pirate connections, Luis was able to learn some interesting family history. With this information, he takes a Krytan ancestor's last name as his own and becomes Luis Fiernfal.

He "joined" up with the Lionguard once he was a bit older and he quickly grew to loathe his new line of work. Certainly didn't help that he was kind of forced to join due to some "pirate law fuckery" as he likes to put it. It made him quite miserable for the couple years he was in the Lionguard, but he was able to keep himself going by honing his skill with firearms, cannons, and the like. He left the Lionguard IMMEDIATELY upon the formation of the Vigil in 1320AE, and was immediately accepted as a recruit thanks to his previous experience with siege and other long-range weaponry.

During his early years in the Vigil as a Crusader, he made quite a few friends amongst his fellow soldiers. The most notable being Kalla and Asterbloom. His brother Lucius also reached out to him, and the two bonded over their mutual disdain for their father.

He rose in ranks within the Vigil, earning the title Warmaster shortly before being sent off to Orr in 1325AE, as part of the Pact effort to slay the elder dragon Zhaitan. Luis managed to get as far as the temple of Lyssa, and was critically injured in the mission to cleanse the temple from Zhaitan's corruption. The risen priestess of Lyssa's spells were quite potent, so when Luis took the full blast of one of these spells point-blank, it placed a lasting curse on him. This impaired his vision and made him quite vulnerable to other forms of magic (mesmer based magic and raw magic such as that from leylines being the most damaging), until the curse's removal years later. He spent some time on leave while his more physical injuries healed up, but went right back to business as soon as he possibly could. He was not present for the defeat of Zhaitan, however, as he was relegated to sticking close to Vigil Keep during his recovery and dealing with the more strategic aspects of the efforts against the elder dragons.

His first mission back in action was to the Shiverpeaks and dealing with Jormag's icebrood minions. Here, he eventually suffered another severe injury and was again relegated to desk duty back at the keep.

Since he was still in close proximity to Lion's Arch when Scarlet attacked the city in 1327AE, he was quick to arrive and aid in the evacuation of citizens, despite that he was not on active duty and was supposed to remain far from any battlefields due to his recent injury. During this event, he came upon the lifeless body of his dearest friend, Cael, amongst the smoldering rubble and was utterly devastated at this loss. He was once again sent on medical leave when he got out of the wreckage of the city with the body of his friend, due to aggravating the injuries that had mostly healed and inflicting him with Scarlet's Rattle in his efforts to get her out of the city so she could have a proper burial. Luis was given plenty of time to grieve the loss of his friend, and spent a lot of time back in his home city where he was reunited with his younger brother Lucius and allowed back in the family manor (unbeknownst to Father Dearest, who was away dealing with some obligations) while he recuperated. Naturally, family drama ensued, hands were thrown and spells were cast. It was a messy situation that ended with Lucius stepping in to split the two up.

As of current date in game (1335AE), the curse he'd gotten in Orr has been lifted for 6ish years and some of the lasting damage was repaired. He is still not used to this new ability to Not feel like he is going to explode if someone does a little display of mesmer magic in the same room as him or if he walked a foot too close to a waypoint. He was also gifted a glamour by the mesmer friends who helped release him from the curse, as a side effect of the curse's removal had made some "slight" changes to the appearance of his eyes and face. He didn't wanna go around and have people get all weird about his un-cursed eyeballs.

He has made a number of charr friends, and gets on well with charr in general for the most part.

Bonds:

  • Lucius is his younger brother. The blue silk hairtie that Lucius wears was a gift from Luis after they were reunited.
  • Luis is a good friend of Kalla. They've worked alongside each other in the Vigil since the very beginning, as the two joined around the same time in 1320AE.
  • Cael Razorfang is a friend lost during Scarlet's siege on Lion's Arch.
  • Aster is another (still living) friend. These two also met in the Vigil, though Aster joined a little later on. Luis and Aster are very chaotic when together, as both have some primal urge to make explosions and play with fire.
