Cassilda, Cassie to their friends (of which they currently have none), is a quiet and reclusive resident of Riverhollow. Having come to town as a young child with their stepmother, a waitress at Debbie's by the name of Mia, Cassilda was always that creepy child in school who stared at you for way too long and could never hold a normal conversation without running away. A perpetual loner, if you will.

After high school, Cassilda left Riverhollow to get their nursing degree, and returned right after graduating, working at the clinic. Now 24 years old, they're known for being distractable, frequently having headaches, and rarely paying attention to the people they're having conversations with. But they're a good nurse, even if their bedside manner is lacking.

Cassie is cold, unsocial, and honestly a bit of a bitch. They never go looking for trouble, but people who try to interact with them are often treated to uninterested glances and rude brush offs.

Born as Cassilda Morgan Chambers, Cassie’s parents were both members of a shitty fucking religious cult. Her father, James Chambers, and her mother, Annabelle, were devout and devoted. They brought up their eldest child in the isolation of the cult’s compound, and strictly educated them in all the ways that the cult leader was the reincarnation of Christ. By the time Cassie was three, Annabelle was pregnant again with another child, who she died giving birth to. The child was a son and he was named Camille. A scant few weeks after the death of his wife, James remarried again under the instructions of the cult leader, this time to a younger woman named Mia Blakeley.

Mia was different, not as zealous as James. She cared for Cassilda and Camille with a softer hand, and Cassie quickly grew attached to her. Within three years, Mia had grown completely disillusioned with the cult, and finally left. She knew she had to take Cassilda with her, because at that age, Cassilda was already clearly... strange. Mis tried to take Camille as well, but James' staunch resistance left her unable to. So it was only Cassilda and Mia who were able to leave.

Sanctuary in Riverhollow

The two of them relocated to Riverhollow, and the six-year-old Cassie began their schooling there. Mia started work as a waitress at Debbie’s, and she liked the job enough that she never really looked for anything else. Mia wasn’t an ambitious woman.

As Cassie grew older, they always seemed to know things that they couldn’t, and they could see and hear things that Mia couldn’t. Mia was a superstitious person, and she quickly realized that what Cassilda was doing was seeing ghosts. That revelation left Mia nervous, and she encouraged Cassilda to spend more time at the church, praying and such, in hopes that it would quell their abilities, or at least give them some peace from the constant overload of extrasensory information. Churches were hallowed ground, after all, right?

Primum non nocere

Still, their demeanour was unnatural and off-putting to most people, and Cassilda was known as a weirdo and a freak, remaining as a loner throughout all their schooling in Riverhollow. Once they had graduated high school, they left town to go to college, where they pursued a nursing degree. Cassilda liked the work, and liked helping people, but quickly found out during their residency that hospitals were a hellish environment for them, full of ghosts and spirits who were suffering and in pain. Once they finished their degree, they returned to Riverhollow, and started to work as a nurse at the clinic there. It was much more peaceful.

Riverhollow did still have its fair share of spirits though, and as far as they knew, Cassilda was the only person who could see them in town. They unofficially became the point of contact for the restless dead in town, who would often come to Cassilda to ask them to pass on messages or carry out tasks – typical unfinished business sorts of things, which Cassilda often did do anonymously when possible.
