As a moth, Vessel was born in a band of theives, raised to commit acts against other Skykids and any living creatures he came into contact with. His parents were some of the less cruel of the band, but still not kind to him by any stretch. Early in life, he was degraded and forced into compliance in whatever way needed. All of this constant abuse compounded in him finding himself fleeing from his group to find his own way.

Guided by hope from the change to his situation, Vessel befriended another Skykid who helped him turn a new leaf. With their guidance, he learned to meditate, focus his energy elsewhere, become kinder, and put his past completely behind him. Becoming explorers of sorts, they wandered together for a few years until Vessel's partner suddenly vanished. Their disappearance broke him, resetting his progress toward reform and causing him to tumble back into the theiving ways of his old life.

Wandering through the world with a granite heart, he often found himself hanging around locations where he could watch krill chanse after other Skykids, laughing at the misfortunes they were enduring. That was until he noticed the first moth he'd seen since his relapse. The little Skykid was desperately trying to escape from a krill but losing ground rapidly. There was not a second thought for Vessel; the kid was wrapped in his cape and sped to safety almost instantly. Being the first interaction he'd had since his fall, it didn't go as planned. Vessel was jumpy and ended up scaring the moth away when he pushed them down as they were trying to get closer to him. Sadness washed over his as he watched the terrified child run off and he caught a glimpse of himself in a puddle nearby. He had become tattered and messy, covered in grime and looking like he hadn't slept in months.
