Eleski

Is it worth it to live a life by taking others'?

Eleski is a failure. In order for a 'Luos' to live honourably and as according to the natural order, they must take life, for everything has to die.

But some 'Luos', such as Eleski, refuse to do so. They are shunned and ostracised by their own race until they are able to commit themselves to kill, or until they kill themselves due to the short lifespan they have if they don't feed on other's lifespan.

Eleski, however, can survive another way.

Wilting flowers.

In a way, that's vegetarian, but it's tragic when he runs through a field of flowers, wilting everything as he traverses a grassy plateau.

Ironically, he still eats meat, but he was born lacking the desensitisation that is normally attributed to 'Luos'.

Abandoned by his own race at the age of 13, he found himself in a small village, made of wooden lodges and small campfires that lit up the dark skies. Entering one of these lodges, he found a boy with golden, pale fur, around the same age as him, drinking squash from out of a glass. As he looked up at the arrival, he gasped, and placed the squash down on the table and jumped backwards.

"S-stay away!", he shrieked, his fur standing on end, "Y-you're a Luos, arent you? Please, I don't want to die yet, I have so much to do with my life!"

"I---", Eleski mumbled, unsure of what to do, "I'm not going to hurt you... I--"

And he burst into tears.

The boy gasped, and cautiously shifted over to Eleski. He took his hand in his and lead him to the lodge's little living room, and instructed him to sit down. Doing so, Eleski fiddled with his fingers, and by the time he had looked up again, the boy was back with some squash in a coffee mug.

"I'm sorry, that was really mean of me...", he apologised, handing the cup to him.

Eleski, ever so grateful, received the cup with absolute delight, and drank the contents quickly. He had never had something so cool, so refreshing yet so sweet at the same time. With shining eyes, he looked up at the boy, but was afraid to speak lest he scare him.

"Uhm, I guess I will introduce myself," he muttered, staring back into his eyes, "My name is Esprit, and I am a Revig. I give ambition and spirit to those who lose hope, but my powers aren't fully working yet."

Eleski shifted around, and scanned the area.

"Where are your parents?", Eleski enquired, tilting his head a bit.

"Us Revigs have a tendency to abandon our children at youth, because in a pack our powers get a bit- uhm- out of whack. It's slightly dangerous."

"Oh." Eleski mumbled, sighing, "I am an abandoned Luos, because I can't bring myself to take life. I--"

He stopped, because a sharp gasp filled the room. Esprit had his hands covering his mouth, and said, "that's awful! Would you like to stay here with me?"

Quite taken aback by this, Eleski nodded his head.

And thus, a true friendship and brotherhood began.
