Godkin
Godkin are the mortal people. They are bestowed with abilities that influence their surroundings and selves. An allowance of power over nature, over form, element… awakened when they reach late adolescence. Across cultures, one standard holds true: a godkin chooses a new name upon their awakening as a rite of passage. Some individuals go so far as to change their name for every significant life event, or hold onto their old name alongside the new.
Godkin peoples fall into common distinctions, such as the horned serpents, cousins of the avians and descended from horned snakes, or the clawen, who are known for their fur. These are not hard and fast categories, and you may be surprised to find a clawen with feathers.
Spirits
The ethereal people, the reflection of the mortal and mundane. Unlike godkin, spirit’s powers are strengthened over time, as if earned. Their powers start off less distinct and influential, but personalize with time. Spirits do not age like godkin, and rather mature until they reach an adult age, then live on indefinitely unless truly killed.
Spirits actually have multiple origins and sources, being a mystical and nebulous variety of being. Some are simply born into spirithood, while others form from deceased godkin, or elevated animals and objects.
Spirits have a home realm that overlaps with the mortal realm.
