As of the present, Shio lives in a shabby minimalist apartment. Others know him from a martial arts dojo, where he comes to train alone. He works a summer job as a camp counselor. Despite his rigid, generally unapproachable personality and having little experience with kids, he genuinely enjoys his job there.

In the past, he has gone to therapy for ptsd, was on antidepressant medication, and underweight for a while. Though he was warned of relapsing, he insisted on continuing to practice his sword art. He found both comfort and catharsis from the familiar exercise and doesn’t seem to be bothered by any associations to his trauma.

He’s good at sewing and mends his clothes, which are mostly thrifted. His favorite pastime is watching cooking videos and collecting recipes he’ll never actually try.

Past

He used to be a traveling swordsman, hunting down dangerous beasts and demons in Japan with a group of nonhuman folk similar to himself. He’s lost most of the people he was close with, often coming close to losing his own life, as well. When the troupe dispersed, the sword art stopped being taught, having lost its use. Shio was the only one to continue practicing it.

Many years passed before he sought out [Jade’s current master] to study and better understand his own magic under. Though he can be considered a beastlike pseudo-dragon, he had only (relatively) recently begun to explore the depths of his own magical ability.

Years after the end of his studies, his master sought out Shio to help assist in understanding the nature of Seager’s curse and the extent of his power. As Shio helped Seager train and control his newfound magic, he began to notice similarities between the curse and something from his long-buried past. He departed soon after, seemingly without explanation.

Appearance

Shio has pale skin and upper back-length dark hair kept in a fluffy ponytail. He has a slim, lithe build

• He’s surprisingly athletic and inhumanly quick on his feet. His startling strength and combat expertise comes out in moments of panic.

• Old ladies love him. He tends to attract many people, largely jocks, for reasons unknown to himself. He's either adored by people or made fun of due to his passiveness or lack of friends.
• His favorite season is winter. His second favorite is autumn.
• He lost his dominant right forearm in battle. He covers the magic seal that keeps his prosthetic in place and helps him control it. His handwriting is shaky because of this.
• He makes his own bentos almost every day, a habit carried over from his daily routine during recovery.
• He’s often found chilling in public parks or other areas. He’d sleep anywhere but his own bed if he could.
