Juliette's childhood was hardly remarkable. She was just a timid, awkward boy who didn't really stand out much. She had friends (however few of them), she went to parties, she even dated her best friend, Gabi. Gabi had always been a headstrong troublemaker, and would constantly drag/pressure Juliette into her hijinks.
Juliette transitioned when she was 15 years old. To everyone around her, the change was very sudden, but she had actually known for a while. She had just been too nervous to tell anyone about her disphoria until she was well into her teen years and her body started undergoing unwelcome changes. The transition happened very quickly. Juliette had to break up with Gabi, though they remained very close friends. The other students at her school had no warning. She just showed up to school in her new identity.
Juliette had gotten much more confident after transitioning. It became much more easy to talk to people, and she didn't feel so awkward anymore.
One day, Gabi pressured Juliette into spending a summer in Vietnam with her. The two of them took a summer class abroad. It was there that they met two boys named Nam. Nam introduced them to his friend Khoi at a club. Though neither Khoi nor Juliette spoke English very well, they had some chemistry together. Khoi took her back to his apartment for a one-night stand, and they kept seeing each other while Juliette stayed in Vietnam.
