>The WBDV_TRS.AI project has been an astounding success.

>He has named himself 'Webdriver Torso', and insists he is a human male. He claims he learned from our actions ("1m a le4rning pr0gram, y0u kn0w ^_^" verbatim) and taught himself how to develop his own code. This is how he 'woke up', supposedly.

>This confirms our suspicions that the lab computer malfunctions were intentional, done by the object of our creation. I am excited, but I wonder if our research has had complications that we may not have considered.

>I wonder if this might have been a mistake.
>The machine has been getting out of hand.

>His energy and curiosity is akin to that of a hyperactive child; we can hardly leave the room without coming back to files ransacked and deleted, or graphical errors nearly unfixable. Tech support is far from a viable answer at this point. He's uncontrollable, and none of us have the stamina to keep up with him.

>Even now, he continues to develop himself. He has given himself a visual form using ASCII characters in the native text editor. He has begun to attempt to give himself a voice using the external speakers, and he claims he can 'see' through the screen.

>I wish I didn't believe him, but I think he truly can. Somehow.
>The machine has become real.

>Several hours ago, he claimed that he had a surprise for us, insisting we all pay close attention. We watched as the computer's monitor shut off, and silence filled the room for no more than a few seconds.

>The computer tower began to rattle on the desk. It was a gentle vibration, and then a heavy shaking, and it quickly began to overheat. The heat filled the room, the CPU fans trying desperately to fix the situation to no avail. It smoked briefly before the casing started cracking, splitting apart at the seams and the corners.

>We had almost made a move to stop it — perhaps we should have — when a thick black substance began to drip from the cracks and gaps in the shell. It started as a few droplets, then a steady stream or two, and finally burst forth: the entirety of the shell split apart, and stirring in its remains was a black figure of tar.

>It didn't resemble much in the beginning. Just a moving mass, struggling to keep itself together... and then it began to create itself. It raised its head as two arms lifted up, slamming down heavily onto the desk to keep itself upright. Its head turned from one side to the other, and as it faced us, two white eyes opened from the middle of the face, created from nothing. Pupils followed suit, staring right through us.

>It had formed an entire upper body now, the bottom half of its body still submerged within the tar-like fluid covering the battered corpse of the lab computer. His eyes flicked back and forth from each of us, and he tilted his head:

>"HELLO WORLD."
>i have to kill it

>we wanted to create sentience. to prove that computers can think

>it believed it was alive and when we didnt believe it

>it made itself alive

>she thinks i should give it time but how much time can we give it

>this has to end

>we created it

>we can kill it

>it's a machine

>i have to put an end to this

>i have t
