Ambroz Aeturna

Backstory

Born into a family of Wild witches in Bonesborough, Ambroz was always trained in the way of wild witches, only ever going to Hexside in order to hone some skills and get his staff but not remaining there long enough to graduate or be branded with a coven sigil. Instead he dedicated himself to raising endangered creatures, originally often posing as one of the Emperor's guard to capture them before taking them to his home to train and care for them.

That's how his business began. Supported by his family, he was given the opportunity to offer care to such endangered creatures in the night market, later even selling them to those he knew would take good care of them, offering a new chance at life to creatures that would otherwise be extinct.

It was during one of his rescue missions that he met Sable, a real guard of the Emperor who caught him close to the castle. The two battled it out and while Ambroz won, he wasn't one for causing undue harm and instead decided he'd sit and talk with the guard, half hoping if he could stay in the area long enough that he'd be able to find the creature that had eluded him.

A playful rivalry began there, with Ambroz and Sable often clashing in fights, each time becoming more verbal than physical. Eventually the two became closer, finally becoming boyfriends. They both had to be secretive, avoiding others knowing of their trysts. Sable often tried to convince Ambroz to join a coven for his own safety but given his history, his family connection with being wild, he refused outright.

Another important figure in his life came in the form of a young Hexside student, Shea. The kid had assumed Ambroz's stand with all the caged animals was cruel, unlocking the cages and setting them all free. While in a panic, the animals did cause some ruckus but Ambroz was quick to call them back and apologize to the fellow stand owners, promising to deal with the child. Shea, impressed with his abilities, seemed to latch onto Ambroz and reluctantly an 'apprenticeship' of sorts was born.

As the Day of Unity approached and the capture of wild witches became more of a priority, Sable decided he'd take the necessary measures to keep his boyfriend safe. It seemed like a normal cat and mouse game but as Ambroz had grown used to them playing, he wasn't expecting his boyfriend to actually capture him, taking him to get a coven sigil mere days before the Day of Unity. Livid and bitter that his magic had been contained, confining him to the Bard coven, he avoided interacting with others as best he could. Upon finding out about his mentor's state, Shea was furious and determined to help - Ambroz used that to ensure the kid was as far away from the day of Unity as possible when it began.

Arriving to the ceremony, if only to see what would come of it, the draining spell hit him hard with how exhausted he'd been from lack of sleep. Though the crowd he could see Sable, looking at him with horror in his eyes as he realized what he'd done. Ambroz collapsed in his arms, barely clinging to consciousness. It felt like an eternity before the rushing feeling of his powers returning woke him, bringing him unsteadily to his feet just long enough to be swept away by the crowd of people trying to escape the Collector.

It was then that he bumped into Shea, who had been trying to get in to help him. Only for the child to be hit, turning him into a puppet in Ambroz's arms. He managed to escape, however, carrying Shea with him while panic built in his chest. If this was a curse, he wouldn't know how to save him.

Escaping only worked for so long, as they soon found themselves cornered and just as Ambroz thought he'd be turned into a puppet, Sable jumped in to protect him. A meaningful gesture for sure but one that didn't save Ambroz, he tried to fight but was also Archived alongside Shea and Sable.

After being freed, he was determined to return to his work of saving endangered beasts and reestablishing them in the wilds of the Boiling isles now that the Emperor was gone. Alongside helping other animals and tutoring his apprentice, of course. He had his sigil removed eventually and though things are still uncertain, Ambroz and Sable are trying to make things work.
