Introduction · · ·
Outgoing yet grounded, Alma is the person to both warmly welcome you and whip you into shape should you lack the spirit. She's an energetic "older sister" type, self-sufficient and taking care of those around her.
Feeling of boredom is an unlikely occurrence for her, as she knows how to keep herself busy, honing her martial arts, learning a new craft or tinkering small gadgets and baubles. As she loves company, she's likely to drag an unsuspecting passerby into the action.
Although she's playfully clumsy and easy-going at a glance, to take her lightly is to err gravely.
Personality · · ·
Despite her brave and carefree demeanor, Alma's heart is heavy with guilt and doubt. Deeply affected by the death of her childhood friend, she takes every failure close to heart and developed a nasty complex of an overthinking perfecionist. And, though her sharp thinking makes her crafty tactics shine on the battlefield, her self-discipline is often brutal and she tends to overwork herself.
She tends to get attached to individuals rather than groups and while she is straightforward with her opinions, she keeps her more vulnerable feelings buried deep in her chest.
After going through a soulsucking depressive episode, she is determined to never let stillness take her again.
Creative Thinking
Alma likes to try her luck in various fields of life and coming up with unorthodox solutions to everyday problems.
She's a talented machinist that even before receiving a training in Garlemald made small inventions to make her everyday life a little bit easier.
Alma is also quite a "dirty fighter", not ashamed to use tricks or underhanded tactics to prevail in battle.
Inferiority Complex
Making mistakes or failing to adhere to her own standards cuts a deep wound in Alma's self-esteem, forcing her to strain herself and sabotage her relationships. She has a hard time coping with overwhelming feelings of inadequacy, choosing to overwork herself even further.
Her vulnerability can be noticed quite easily, as despite her confidence and determination, sincere compliments make her bashful and easily embarrassed.
Energetic Extrovert
Alma's outgoing and sociable personality attracts people easily. Adept at adapting to someone else's needs, she finds it easy to strike up a conversation or make someone open up. Those who aren't bothered by her tireless personality find comfort in her presence and might find themselves getting attached easily, even though the latter might not be necessarily reciprocated.
Though she is a person people can confide in and would not hold other people's secrets against them, she's wary of getting attached and sharing her own story.
The Unyielding Spirit
Alma likes a good competition, be it mental or physical, but more than anything she hates losing and struggles to admit defeat. She's known for often taking things too far in pursuit of coming out on top.
She is incredibly stress-resistant and able to withstand incredible pressure that would crush any average person. Though it is necessary to note that even she has her limits.
She's also a consistent and reliable worker, which earned her respect in various menial jobs that she took.

Backstory · · ·
Since her early childhood, Alma quickly earned a rebellious reputation. Uninterested in Mol's peaceful way of living, she picked fights with kids from other tribes and was often found bravely roaming the Steppe on her own, returning back to the settlemets moments before the sun set behind the horizon. Her feistiness and ambition rang through the Steppe wind whenever the half-mocking, half-admirable title "Mol Wolfling" was uttered.
At age 17, joined by her partner-in-crime and best friend, shy boy Batu, Alma decided to take on the Nadaam on thier own as other Mol were unwilling to join. Though their attempt had a promising start, the boy died from the poison arrow shot by an Oronir warrior.
The rift between Alma and the Mol grew. Unable to take revenge or pursue deeper connection with her tribesmen she left the tribe a year after and spent some time roaming unaffiliated until her bargaining talents, survival skills and miraculous knowledge of foreign languages caught the eye of the Kha tribe.
[Pre Realm Reborn] Wetstone Guild · · ·
As Kha tribe freqented trading with nations outside Steppe, that gave Alma a quick opportunity to set her foot out in Kugane. She drifted further and further from the Steppe, as it was a sore for her eyes, until getting roped in trades between the continents gave her opportunity to escape her painful memories altogether.
Thanalan utillized their trading route with Kugane and merely a year after Dalamud's fall Alma was able to travel overseas. She quickly picked up a job in one of the smaller mining guilds. Other workers warmed up to her quickly, but the craft itself felt rather mundane. Deep inside, after leaving Steppe and crossing seas Alma bean yearning to see other places. Other people. She wished to take on challenges bigger than dangers of the mine.
Yet her confidence laid low after her defeat on Nadaam. Mistakingly, she thought that what she lacked was planning, and so Alma began saving up for an adventure that would someday come.
Everything seemed calm until a worn out, shadowy figure opened the gates of their guild and fell to the floor unconscious, asking for work.
And in that stranger, Gan of the Magan tribe, Alma found a quick friend.
Alma nursed Gan back to health. While Gan was getting her strength back together, they bonded together over being far from their birthplace. Though the culture of the Magan tribe differed from the Steppe, they still found enough common ground and Gan soon joined Alma as another miner.
Alas, the guild was too small to withstand the onslaught of taxes that befell after another year. Someone had to leave, and along with a few other members, Gan volunteered. Reluctant to let her friend leave empty-handed, Alma reluctantly gave better half of her savings to help. It was a choice that felt right. But alas, that was the choice that Alma would soon regret.
[Realm Reborn] Depression · · ·
As Gan went onward with her travels, loneliness began creeping over Alma. Others were friendly, sure, but no one quite felt like a friend that Gan was to her. In fact, no one quite felt like a friend for a long, long time since Batu died.
Feeling stuck as a foreigner in a place where no one really understood her, Alma left the guild herself after a few months, holding coins now diminishing in value because of a crisis.
She has not met the scions. She had no grand foe to overcome, only trifling yet difficult missions that made her companions fall or give up. Her risks did not pay off. The people she relied on did not reciprocate the sentiment.
Was it all for naught? Alma asked herself, day after day. And then heard about a long-awaited Warrior of Light emerging from the masses. An unlikely figure being the Bringer of Light, rising quickly as a new hero. A timid, cold figure.
Gan Magan.
And hearing about it really crushed Alma. She desperately took on harder and harder quests to one them up. Quests that Alma shamefully failed with her rotten luck.
And that was the moment when she herself gave up. Unable to reach the shining ideal of her dear friend, Alma fell into a deep depression.
Fell and have never fully recovered.
Under the weight of her own emotions, Alma left Eorzea some time before the bloody banquet, oblivious to hardships that Gan faced.

A being that Alma, lacking knowledge of aetherology at the time, mistook for a voidsent and forged a pact with.
In reality, Palamedes is not a voidsent, but a projection of Dark Knight's soulstone that Alma found during her god-killing travels as an Eikon Slayer. As she was having conflicting feelings over no one ever appreciating what she's done and realizing, that they had their right to do so, the "pact" allowed Palamedes and Alma merge, invoking vampiric abilities in her.
Alma saved Elisey from execution by convincing Zenos she has a use for him in mind while Zenos' favor was slowly growing towards Alma. Surprised that her intentions towards him were not exploitative or hierarchical in nature, Elisey warmed up to her. As a writer and actor, Elisey took great interest in Alma's journey and her dramatic developing relationship with crown prince of Garlemald.
Pushing Alma into the jaws of danger and having no one else besides each other made their relationship complicated. They offered each other company and comfort in a hostile environment that was Garlemald, but were getting on each other's nerves in ways big and small.
However, during Alma's brief descent into Eikon Slayer's role, she grew sick of Elisey's cowardice and abandoned him.
They later reconciled as acquaintances in Tertium during Endwalker and forgiven each other, but decided to take it easy before becoming friends again.
Gan and Alma are bound by fate by the nature of their souls, as they came to be from the same ancient beast that once roamed among the stars. Be it as allies, family or bloodsworn enemies, their shards and incarnations are destined to meet and bond.
Their friendship is as compliacted as it is sincere and will be described in their character profiles.
A childhood friend that followed Alma everywhere. Just like Alma, Batu was initially an outsider brought to the tribe by his grandma when he was an infant. His death affected Alma deeply.
