Vanril used to be a priest in the Church of Torm, living a happy life giving the word of courage to the soldiers of Remshire. He was a faithful disciple and quite the gentleman, traveling all over Galaron and spreading the word of selflessness. Once the wars between Remshire and Rolxia broke out however, everything changed. Vanril Stockley enlisted in the Remshire-Rolxia Wars, and what he saw when he arrived in the height of the wars was chaos. Men stood weeping over their friends, and weapons lay aside on the open fields. Vanril instantly began preaching the word of Torm, and of self-sacrifice, and of courage. The men all loved him, and he fought many battles for Remshire, but never harmed a single man. The preacher navigated the aftermath of each nasty skirmish, each gruesome battle, blessing the souls of the innocent fallen on both sides of the fight. Even the Rolxian military allowed him to bless each man that had fallen in the wars between the brother countries. This horrible dispute had taken its toll on both sides, and Vanril made sure that each man knew the awful price of war. He broke bread with the Remshire-folk and gave wine to the Rolxians on the holidays, bringing everyone closer than they ever had before. The wars seemed to be dwindling down because of one brave priest.

One day, while Vanril was saying his prayers during a stalemate in the Remshire-Rolxia Wars, a small group of soldiers from Remshire (who disagreed with Vanril’s peaceful ways) came and beat him to death with clubs and sticks. Vanril Stockley died from his own people, and the conspiracies from both sides sparked the wars back into a raging flame. A few days later, Vanril was revived by the god of tyranny, Bane. Bane brought the priest back in his robes, but Vanril was bestowed a blue, flaming head in his rage. He had been cursed by anger and betrayal and walked back to his old church, taking up a torch and burning it to the ground in the middle of the night when no one was there. He left Remshire and Rolxia to fight it out without him, and picked up a lifestyle of necromancy to reluctantly honor Bane. He tried his best to please the evil god, but he could barely even upset a produce cart, much less commit a crime. Vanril always wondered if Torm had forsaken him, leaving him to rot with Bane, or whether his self-sacrifice wasn’t enough.
