The sun wasn't always this way...

The story of the Cursed Sun started when it was created. The odd fusion of Necrozma and Cosmog was made to grow up in a state of constant distress and fatigue, as it would constantly siphon power from itself due to the nature of its fusion. It's not certain as to why this Cursed Sun exists, but it turns out to be the reason that it is dimmer than other worlds' suns.

However, the Cursed Sun has an actual name- Earendel. And Earendel wasn't just a tormented god created to be its own energy vacuum, it was in fact created to be its own balancing act by Ellowyn. Ellowyn's intentions were to find a way to make the world a bit more even, balanced, and thus created something they thought of off the top of its head- a light, and the absorption of that light. And it worked for a while- Earendel wasn't always so miserable. But as time went on, Ellowyn watched its little creation bumble about in a daze, seemingly constantly drained of and regaining energy. It seemed that the balance was incomplete, and the rate at which it siphons its own energy seemed to be uneven. Ellowyn had no idea how to fix it, so in a last-ditch effort, they offered Earendel her own place in the skies. She agreed, and she became the sun of the world.

Time marched on as Earendel stayed in the sky, living in a state between complete fatigue and high energy. It felt like its existence was just a sick joke, after Ellowyn left it in the sky and never returned, but a part of it knew Ellowyn could still see it. And so, it waited, hoping that somehow, it would exact its revenge for being created this way.
