Profile
Our story takes place in a far away land in the sky; inhabited by an unknown race considered gods by Hylians.
Legends say they were such strong magic wielders, that they were the ones responsible for the foundation of the Hyrule Kingdom itself, and what it is today. Once their accomplishment done, they simultaneously went back to the heavens, location they came from in the first place.
They prospered for long in their land; thanks to their advanced technology, and kept contact with the world below.
Machines were used between them and Hylians, as well as messengers. The royal family of Hyrule remained close to their own, offering their greatest inventions as a sign of great alliance.
But with time comes renewal. And slowly, the two races lost contact ever since.
The machines were no longer used, and Hylians started to forget the existence of such advanced Kingdom, seeming like an odd mythical story for kids.
Soon, every traces of their inventions and former link with Hyrule faded away, only dust, ruins, or old and spoiled artifacts remaining, unknown to commoner eye.
However; no matter how much they ceased to exist in the mind of the world below, this race, never disappeared.
This, is the story of a forgotten tale, the one of a last member of the royal family.
-
Without any contact of the world below, the sky people began to forget their own origins as well.
They lived on their own, protected by what they called a gift from the goddesses, to keep their capital safe from any danger.
A celestial dragon; a being capable of extremely strong magic, only filled with nothing but will to protect the place.
As time passed, tradition made this wonderful creature their guardian, protector of the capital; living with the royal family and remaining on their side. This creature, called Monty, accompanied every generations, watching them grow, watching them die, until new descendants take the lead as the sovereign.
The Gods' creation would grant their blessing to each new ruler, allowing them the use of the same powers they wield, as well as a connection between them and the divine protector.
Of course, this blessing would never be accepted without any strict education, nor tests, to make sure the newer generations were worthy of such responsibility.
The parents were only seen as educators, preparing the child for a ritual on their 17th birthday. Only then, Monty would test the future ruler, sensing if they deserved such magic or not.
The last descendant of the royal dynasty was a promising child.
Mature at a very young age, she took her role very seriously without being officially crowned.
While she still had the innocence and purity of a young kid, not necessarily understanding the importance of her future quite yet, she still obeyed, following her parents' guidance. And Monty looked after her during her growth.
The creature sensed something in that bright princess, something they never felt before.
Barely reaching her 10th birthday, the child miraculously requested the start of the ritual. Before her parents could even consider refusing, the Goddesses' gift stood up for her, allowing the child to start the ceremony.
-
Standing up in front of the dragon and wearing the ceremony outfit, her people and family gazing at her, Celeste recited her vows to protect her land; promising to perfectly represent the image of her citizens, and protect them at all cost.
She then slowly approached the beast, sensing their magical aura spreading across their surroundings. She could feel her hair gently being brushed by their simple presence.
Still, she moved forward, this feeling getting stronger and stronger with each step. Many of her ancestors before her lived through this. Some failed, not capable of handling even the feeling of such frightening energy alone, and some succeeded; being the ones she knows today as the previous representatives of the flying capital.
Facing the creature, this latter lowered their head, allowing the child to place her palm on it, accepting their gift of power.
Because of the energy radiating within the area, her forehead was freed from her hair, a noticeable marks appearing on the skin. Identical to the protector's markings, Celeste passed the ritual with ease, making her the youngest royal family member to ever being accorded Monty's mark.
-
Yet, far too young of a child, the princess couldn't simply take all the responsibilities of the entire Capital. The ruling duties were still kept by the parents for the time being, teaching their daughter everything that needed to be known for the day she will take over the throne.
With the great protector's blessing out of the way, however, the King and Queen put way less of pressure onto their child's shoulders, allowing her to feel parental love, unlike any of her ancestors experienced in the past due to strict traditions.
In wait for her 17th birthday, day of her coronation, the young and curious princess had now the freedom to discover her newfound powers, now even accompanied by the Draconic guardian, now destined to be on her side.
She had plenty of years ahead, having much deserved time to let the child get used to her new condition, as well as her new beast "friend", which seemingly had a liking to her since the beginning.
The important date coming closer, the princess had to face the impact of time, and the consequences it could have in her life.
Severely ill, her parents both died shortly before she could officially get crowned as the new Queen, devastating the young woman, who could now only rely on herself. As part of the royal family, the girl never truly had the occasion to make any friends. Normal children had school, while she was taught indoors how to handle her future Kingdom. Everyone around her age only respected her, showing no sign of genuine appreciation to her presence, nor wish to play with someone so highly respected.
This reality crashed into her like a wave, drowning her to the terrible destiny of loneliness she would have to confront earlier than anticipated.
Still, she at least had her protector; acting as a companion during her mourning days.
-
Now sitting on her new throne, Celeste couldn't show any sign of sadness nor regret any longer. As the great representative of her people, her duty came first.
Against all odds, the young woman received all the support from her companion, which helped her a bit in her struggles, despite the beast not accustomed to humans emotions such as sorrow, or grief. Having to watch so many people like her die and being replaced the day after was nothing new to them, and yet, they felt the need to help Celeste in her deep moment of sadness.
The new Queen knew she had to get through this, no matter how long it would take.
Month after month, Celeste proved to her Kingdom the determination she had in her youth never faded. Her land prospered, happy to see the light again after the loss of yet another rulers line.
Back to its daily peaceful life, the capital grew with their Queen, who reached her 20th birthday. However, the dawn of the ceremony, a foreign event took the City in the Sky aback.
Sounds of a terrible thunderstorm could be heard in the horizon, the clouds far below them turning into the darkest tint they ever witnessed in their life time.
Unused to such surprising turn of event, it only grew worse when their capital started trembling, not even able to give a name to this "earthquake", being a city high above the nothingness.
Alerted, the ruler and her beast calmed the population down, trying to find a reason behind such strong change of weather.
But they did not require to wait for any explanations, the reason behind of all this presenting itself in a silver plate.
A monstrous-shaped smoke, darker than the clouds, with slight blood colored tints showed itself to the Kingdom, facing the Queen.
-
Even if they never went through something like this, the Queen was ready to take it down with the help of her companion, their duty about to be fulfilled.
Like an incredibly enraged monster, the unknown evil charged to them in a way of attacking them, in vain.
As a last resort, however, as they were about to consider the fight over, the smoke exploded, spreading its dark clouds all over the city, like a poisonous gas. The effects, while unaffecting the two, proved itself efficient when the citizens around her started gasping for air, before turning into a small bird creature, with a human-shaped face.
The queen was horrified at the sight, quickly rushing to one of them, begging to know if they were okay, or if they could even talk. Each and every one of them turned into the same creature, looking around in confusion, still trying to understand what happened to them.
Startled, and mortified by the fact she didn't managed to protect them, Celeste did not notice the smoke gathering once again, noticing too late, after hearing it making a weird noise, as if it was laughing.
Turning her head toward the source, she was greeted by the sight of Monty rushing toward her, shielding her from the unknown enemy charging at her.
While the smoke was now confronted by the dragon, it instead surrounded it, making Monty struggle from the lack of vision and oxygen.
When Celeste tried to rush to them, the dragon's tail violently swiped her away, making her crash against a wall. As surprise and pain overtook her, she still tried to get up, only to be able to see her dearest and only friend turning itself to face her, with eyes like she never saw.
Yellow, hungry glowing eyes were starring down to her, approaching like a blood-thirsty beast. All Celeste could do, despite the pain, was to try to get up and reason with the dragon, but without success.
She could not only feel Monty's aura, but a sinister one as well slowly replacing it, before being grabbed and thrown away, far from her capital's limits, her figure now slowly fading from sight, drowned by the sea of clouds.
All Celeste heard at last was the victorious roar from the beast, now possessing the body of the place's guardian, after cursing every citizens, turning them into strange creatures.
