Universe Lore :
Shadow Office takes place in the Underworld
This is where some people end up after they die—a sort of second life where everyone has a role and must figure it out during their stay. Generally, people arrive in their preferred form or in the same/similar form they had in their previous life. They don’t age; they leave the Underworld once certain conditions are met, but they always have the choice to stay or not.
When you arrive in the Underworld, you can either be reincarnated as a “Shadow” or a “Lucidus” (it’s a bit like demon & angel). Neither remembers their past life, but the Lucidus remember what they learned. (Love, forgiveness, sharing,...)
Whether Shadow or Lucidus, everyone has an animal aspect; some have a specific meaning, while others do not.
Being a Shadow means that in your previous life, something impactful happened—something bad—and you became stuck in that state when you died. When “Shadow” people are in their new form, you can see traces of this, such as different limbs, scars, etc., but they also retain certain aftereffects. They relive the trials of their past lives (though not exactly the same ones).
The Lucidus live in the same world as the Shadows, but they don’t really move from their spot or desk. Lucidus and Shadows work together but don’t really see each other unless something truly dangerous happens.
Their job is to intervene in the human world, their former world. (This same world is connected to my Detective universe)
The Lucidus guide humans like guardian angels, while the Shadows investigate and sometimes have to fight. Neither can go directly to Earth, which is why the Outsiders are there to intervene in the human world directly. They don’t see each other directly. For the Outsider, they sense an energy or hear a message, whereas in the Underworld, they’ll make a phone call.
The Department S(pecial)
Its members are different from the rest. If you’re transferred to this department, it could mean that:
• The employee is capable of working but is unstable
• The employee is unable to work properly but is mentally stable
• The employee doesn’t get along with everyone (they scare people, cause confusion, are too young, etc.)

DESCRIPTION:
Grey is in office worker setting, it’s like an underworld to check/help humans + other stuff. He’s in a special departement (DEPARTEMENT S) that most people wants to avoid. In his previous departement someone did something so bad that Grey got his ’’past’’ life trauma come back, he transfered in Lex departement after almost loosing his job. He can’t trust people now but Lex will help him and somewhat heal each other (one being so vulnerable; Lex, that the other; Grey, can trust him and actually open himself again and help Grey at the same time.)
Lex = anxiety, low self esteem -- Grey = no longer trusting others, close himself and try to be someone else
Grey and Lex aren't officially a couple, they've just become so close through work that their relationship resembles that of a couple. They'll realize this later on and end up moving in together.
Grey is the one in charge, very confident and with an ego as big as a skyscraper (I'm exaggerating, but you can tell he's comfortable and not afraid to be himself,... or at least that's how he wants to appear in this department). He often encourages and helps Lex, who is his main colleague
Lex is the tall guy who doesn't want to stand out, is often stressed and quickly overwhelmed when he can't control anything. He cries easily and is comforted by the big cat (Grey). He is easily embarrassed, but as soon as the couple makes it official, he will often hug and kiss.
His past life (tw: bullying/social anxiety/self-harm/suicide/SA/incest):
He had been bullied since childhood, and it continued at his job. Rumors, physical abuse, mental abuse. He suffered from social anxiety and triggered by a specific incident, he gouged out his eyes with shards of a broken mirror, which is what ultimately killed him.
His family was part of his recurring harassment. His dad sexually assaulted him and would always make comments about his gaze. Grey lived solely with his father when he was a minor.
His Past in the Underworld (tw: SA/anxiety):
When he arrived, he was immediately offered an important job as an office worker because it was related to his previous life (mind you, he doesn't remember his past life). He accepted, and as time went on, he rose through the ranks; he was confident and popular until he met Aaron. This new guy who imitated Grey was very close to him; it seemed like he wanted to be Grey. Aaron confessed his feelings for Grey. Grey didn’t believe him and rejected his feelings, but Aaron took it badly. In reality, he was taking advantage of him, but that wasn’t enough. Grey wasn’t supposed to be on the same level as him. He pinned Grey down and forced a kiss. And then Grey felt a pain in his chest like he’d never felt “before” (in reality, it was emotions from his past life resurfacing because that’s part of the trials of the Underworld). He shoved Aaron so hard that Aaron hit his head; people gathered around them after hearing the commotion. Grey is on the ground, having a panic attack. He eventually faints. Then the rumors started; people thought he had awakened his past and was going to go mad, hurting everyone. It was the end of the great Grey...
Later he’ll join the Department S and meet Lex
Special Note:
- In his previous life, his appearance was practically the same as it is now, except for the animal-like features, his eye color, and his hair color
- Despite his confident demeanor, anxiety often creeps in, especially when Aaron or people from other departments are mentioned, and also at the very beginning of his official relationship with Lex
- Lex & Grey are both aromantic; they don’t know it outright but sense that they’re different from other couples. When the couple became official, they struggled a bit because they thought they had to act like other couples to feel like a real couple (but after a long, thorough discussion, they reached a mutual agreement)
- The snow leopard is linked to his personality
- His scars and eyes are related to his past life death
- The relation about Lex and Grey is about comfort and healing
- What made Grey accept/trust and love Lex, it’s because Lex shows his weakened self most of the time to Grey
