How was she turned?: 

She was bitten by a radioactive spider during her first year of grad school, while getting a tour of Oscorp. 

Then, several years later when she had her medical degree, she became a vampire after one of her patients who was involved in a hit and run turned out to be a vampire. About to die out of desperation, pain, and adrenaline, he bit her before her spidey senses could go off. 

Draining her to near death by accident. In his regret for what he had done, in order to thank her for helping him, he changed her. 

Becoming very close to her maker, they ended up falling in love leading to her first pregnancy. 

Canon event: Watching helplessly as her whole coven and her late lover being murdered by monster hunters from the church, as well as miscarrying her pregnancy. 

Being the only survivor of her family, she fell into a deep depression, loosing her will to live as she drank her sorrows away, loosing her job, home, she turned to revenge. Slaughtering the people of the church one by one, a eye for a eye. 

Miguel came, he had been watching her story, feeling the pain of losing a child as well, he saw her story was leading to self destruction and stepped in before she could finish the job, managing to convince her to come work for the spider society as their personal doctor. Save lives instead of take them. Taking her in and giving her a purpose as the official doctor for the Spider Society. 

At some point, her and Miguel fell in love and had two children. They attempted a third, but she had a miscarriage, where she found out that she could no longer conceive.
