Senara was born upon the coast of Breakwater: the daughter of a pirate and an artisan. Her father, Zennor Ives, captained a ship named the Siren’s Song, which smuggled goods around Nevriande. Despite his ruthless occupation, he was a charming cat, known to easily disarm men and women alike with this wit. It was this charisma that saw him grow infamous amongst locals, who would warn their sons and daughters to steer clear of the pirate captain who serenaded young romantics with his siren song. Her mother, Larisa Tarasova, was a practical woman, focused far more on her wares than frivolous things like love. She crafted jewellery made from shells and pebbles, which she would sell to the townspeople.

Whilst collecting jewels for her trinkets, she met a pirate captain by the shore. He was instantly smitten. He hardly ever met a creature who didn’t instantly love him but Larisa was far too busy searching for shiny rocks to pay him much mind and so Zennor found her all the more beautiful. He would visit her every Sunday and deliver to her the shiniest things he could find - first seashells and pretty rocks and then later pearls and gemstones. Soon enough, all his finest treasures went to Larisa and she too fell in love.

The pair married in secret, below the cliffs of Breakwater. Shortly thereafter, Larisa fell pregnant and the pair planned to welcome their child into the world. However, this future would not come to pass, as a particularly harsh storm at sea saw that Zennor would not return. His ship was never found and neither was the captain, leaving Larisa to raise their daughter alone.

Senara grew to be much like her mother - practical-minded and diligent with her work - but some part of her heart longed for adventure, like those that her father might have partaken in. Larisa wouldn’t often talk about Zennor but, when she did, she never had a bad thing to say. This left Senara with the hope that, one day, her father will return, despite knowing that this is almost certainly impossible. Growing a strong affinity for the ocean, Senara knew that her heart belonged to it. Learning to fish at a young age, she would later apprentice as a trawler. Much like her mother, she grew a fondness for shiny things.
