Nate's tail and ears are cerata tat have cnidosacs at their tips, meaning touching the tips will sting you. These stings can be harmful and even poisonous, as he is also able to absorb toxins from his food and absorb them into his body. These are common defense mechanisms for feral nudibranches and when the AAA scientists grabbed the animal DNA to create this Companion those features transferred over. It was not their intention to make Nate dangerous, but it happened nonetheless, resulting in the mandatory assignment of a Wild collar type. Nate is actually a very friendly kid, although he is often frustrated that he's not allowed to participate in activities that involve lots of bodily contact. He's quite athletic and would love to play more contact sports, but he's stuck playing racquetball, swimming and running track. At least for now, because Nate holds out hope that the scientists will be able to deactivate those parts in his DNA.
