Drift was born in Stratuspoint 21 years ago to a racing enthusiast mother and a video game enjoying father, so it's only natural that he became very proficient at Mario Kart (specifically the Wii version) at a young age. While it didn't quite gain him the notoriety he has now as the head of the Weather Committee, he actually built up quite a reputation among almost all of Stratuspoint and the majority of the people in its much more populous surrounding cities (Rumio Lake and Aurora City) for being one of the top three most skilled at toy car racing, a competitive sport that Aurora City is famous for. Drift is estimated to have won thousands of dollars from his toy car racing matches, which he contributed most of to save up for an apartment in Melody River in order to pursue meteorology and fulfill his childhood dream of joining the Weather Committee. He ended up staying in Stratuspoint for college, going to the town's only university, Celestial Heights University, and earning a four-year degree in Meteorology and Weather Studies (I should note that college is free throughout Crystal Mountain).

After completing his degree, he moved to Melody River and started looking for jobs at the committee, going to the buildings as many as two or three times a day to see if there were any open positions that he was qualified for. On one day (which would also end up being the day he got hired as a secretary there) he met another hopeful fresh out of college named Misty, a goat from West Neptune who was visiting the committee building for the same reason he was. The two of them got along quite well, and became close friends soon after meeting at the committee building that one day. After about two year of moving up in the committee, he became the head of the public announcements division of the committee, and was therefore qualified to choose future members of the division, and he immediately put a recommendation in for Misty. Misty ended up being hired, and the two of them went on to become Head Meteorologist and Vice Meteorologist of the weather committee.

Drift and Misty are both known for being very receptive to the wishes of the Crystal Mountain community and for having a remarkable talent in balancing the weather and keeping it safe and consistent; they are often considered the best pair of leaders in the weather committee's history. Drift donates a large portion of his pay to the college he attended in Stratuspoint, Celestial Heights, as well as the citizens of Stratuspoint, who each receive significant parts of his salary every year and often put it towards living or maintenance costs, thus helping a lot of them make a living off of things they enjoy like farming, recreation, music, art, etc. which is what Drift encouraged them to do with this money, explaining that he wanted all of the people of Stratuspoint to know how it felt to be able to make a living off of toy car racing and how freeing it was.
