Seth was the son of a powerful wizard that served under his country's royal council, but was dismissed for falling in love with a witch. His mother and father left their societies to raise Seth in the forest. The society of witches took great offense to their relationship and came to kill them. Seth survived and later went to the kingdom for help. But because he didn't inherit any of the magic prowess from neither his mother and father, they refused to take him in. He was also denied by the church because of his mother's affiliation with the devil.

Seth has since been wandering the land because he has no home to come back to, with the cottage he once knew burnt to the ground. Needless to say he's extremely pessimistic and untrusting. He hates the world and scorns religion, because he believes there's no way god is fair if they allowed a child to lose everything he loved for no reason at all.

The hat on his head is his mother's, and the star charm attached to it belongs to his father. The only item that survived the fire was his father's tome of spells, which he can't read properly. Seth is mediocre with magic and swordsmanship because his parents wanted him to be gentle. The one thing he does best is cooking, which is incredibly unfortunate because Avi doesn't like/need to eat.

After meeting Avi, he found purpose in helping him obtain the god's blessings, with the ulterior motive of using the blessings to get revenge on the witches that killed his family. Avi is almost like his guardian angel, except they need each other to further their own goals. 

He's annoyed by Avi at first because he sounds like a lunatic proclaiming to be a god.
