She was young when she first fell in love. Too young, they sometimes murmured, too young for pale pink to bloom from her chest. Not scarlet, no, no rivers of blood, but rosy blossoms, beautiful things, delicate petals that matched her in beauty and grace. Horrors. As the sun rose each day on her unrequited love, a new flower burst forth from her body, proclaiming the pain that she was cursed to suffer as long as her affections remained unreturned. Any efforts to remove the petals from her skin, to save her from herself, were met with stubborn refusal. This, she could endure for her love. Perhaps, in time she would be beautiful enough.
