In the forests of Kotai, a struggling figure walked out. Their memories were merely fragments; Left with a name, how to survive, and an ominous directive to never remove the mask that they wear. The mask's whispers were loud in their ears.
Nervousness clung to them like a shadow as they found their steps inching towards a budding settlement. Its humble beginnings promised hope to the newly revived Vica. The town welcomed Vica with open arms as they didn't have many people at first. They were questioned by some but with Vica's memory unsure, they weren't able to answer a lot of their questions. Over the next five years, they ended up becoming an integral part of Enderfell's growth. Teaming with a woman named Berri and a man named Artos, they built a tavern (the only one in town) where they worked and lived. For a time, life felt tranquil, their mask's whispers temporarily silenced by the camaraderie and purpose that they discovered here.
The tranquility that Vica was now used to started to crack when the mask's insidious desires awoke. The whispers were slow to start at first. It spoke of being hungry, craving to be fed, and the need of a human soul to survive. Some days, these whispers were merely that and they could go about their day, while other days it was loud as thunder. It scared Vica; it often made them unable to sleep and wince at the loudness. Their closer friends noticed this change but Vica claimed it to be migraines.
The whispers came to a halt when the mask's insatiable appetite took over. They don't remember killing Beri. All they remember is her scream, and waking back up to their best friend dead in front of them and blood on their hands. It was a mad panic afterwards.
The night made it easy enough to sneak out undetected. Burying Beri outside the town, Vica's guilt-ridden heart shattered, and they fled, leaving behind the life they had built. As Beri's absence cast a growing shadow over the town, all eyes pointed to Vica after a poem was found on Beri's body.
Now a wandering soul, Vica is driven by a dual-purpose: to outrun the mask's hunger and to quell the guilt that plagues their every step. The memories of their past and Beri's death continue to evade their grasp. But with a cautious yet resourceful spirit, they're attempting to navigate this path and avoid their past.
Beri was Vica's first friend in the town and they grew to have an incredible bond; they were kindred spirits who enjoyed joking around together. Vica holds tremendous guilt over her death.
Poko is Beri's young daughter who Vica quickly befriended. They enjoyed playing together, reading stories, and baking. She's now the last person that Vica wants to see, due to her mother's death.
Artos was the owner of the tavern that Vica helped build. He saw their potential and, in return for a room, asked them to help with the tavern. Vica looked up to Artos.
Nonna was another member of the village that Vica befriended. They're a fisher by trade and provided food for the village. Vica sometimes would join her on the river.
Vaunna was the village's self-proclaimed leader and another person that Vica befriended. She was quick to accept another member into Enderfell and they often saw each other at the tavern.
