•When he and his twin sister, Hilda, were three years old, both of them were abducted from their father Johann by a currently-unnamed organization that focused on genetic experimentation with high attrition rates.

•They were taken to be used as test subjects, where human children were mixed with the DNA of various animals: in Ymir's case, that of the spotted hyena. Unlike many other kids, they survive this part, but don't smoothly take to the genetics and require extra care before being moved.

•During childhood, they lived in a secluded compound with other kids who survived the DNA meld, including Canary and Hilda. They were all trained from a young age to become soldiers exceeding human capabilities; in Ymir's case, they were clearly made for physical combat and security. Because Hilda melded with her DNA near-perfectly, she is often taken elsewhere away from her brother.

•His codename in the compound is Alexithymia, a cruel joke made by a member of the non-experimental staff to poke fun at his emotional traumas. The other kids call him Alexi as a nickname, which they like far better than the full version.

•When the compound is infiltrated by Solid Snake, Ymir ends up alerted to his presence and is knocked unconscious for their trouble. Thus, they don't know that Sky saw the man spare their life, and decided to help him in destroying the compound. Later, after the entire place fucking blows up, he heads back into the ruins to rescue Sky after they stay behind.

•With nowhere else to go, Ymir and Sky are both offered a place to stay by Snake and his partner, Otacon. Considering Ymir has never experienced life outside of the compound, it's a relief to have people who know what the hell they're doing in this world. Unfortunately, it comes with the caveat that Hilda was away when this entire incident went down, and thus she is separated from them yet again.

•Ymir really does try to find her, but with no leads and the surviving organization keeping a tight grip on its remaining experiments, it never happens.

•Later on, he enters a polyamorous relationship with David and Hal, because Jonah is cringe and fail. When he and Sky reunite with Hilda later, she's not happy about this fact, seeing it as him replacing her with a new family-something he feels intense guilt over. It doesn't help that she was originally trying to get revenge on him and Sky for unintentionally leaving her behind all those years ago.

•Eventually, the siblings find the last personal belongings of their father Johann while accompanying Hal to his old home. Learning of his existence, and the fact he died in an attempt to rescue them from the compound, is a traumatic revelation for both of them. Ymir is broken over the fact he will never meet his dad, and Hilda spirals further into severe self-loathing.

•At some point, Ymir will stop a suicide attempt from Hilda, as she is convinced nobody wants, needs, or even loves her. This is the breaking point that triggers the course correction their relationship desperately needed for so long.

•Sadly, due to Ymir's animal DNA never truly melding with him, he dies young in his 30s-40s. :(

Basic personality summary: Ymir is very competitive, and filled to the brim with excitable energy. Becoming bored easily, they will either find something to do or MAKE something happen-which has lead to incidents before, the tamest of which involving them chewing couches to pieces. He has poor impulse control, but can tamper down on it in serious situations, forcing himself to mentally relax and think ahead. It's a struggle, but Ymir's training usually wins out. Said training also deeply worsened his traumatized mind, unfortunately, and they have always struggled with their own emotions. They either experience overwhelming, intense feelings that take over their head, or literally nothing at all. This makes their relationships with others complicated; Ymir has to fight to be vulnerable, and they often lie about their mental state. He fears being hated or abandoned over his struggles, a trauma rooted in being taken from his father at a painfully young age, and thus will go to any lengths to bury said struggles. Even with his chosen family-this includes Canary, obviously-Ymir doesn't let himself be open nearly as much as he should.

Design notes:

•Scar over left eye, and enwrapping scar around throat

•Spotted hyena ears, either rounded or more pointed is fine. Has a tail as well, and though hyenas don't wag their tails naturally, Ymir picked up on the habit from being around experiment kids with more canine-centric traits.

•Has black hair with the side parts by their ears dyed white. Eyes are dark grey

•Has sharp teeth, and usually seen smiling in a playful, troublemaking way
