Martha Bishop

The wife of the mechanic/inventor John Bishop, though it's just a facade. They're beards for one another, neither interested in marriage but both tired of social expectation that they should. Martha's been in a long-term relationship with a local widow named Eleanor Briggs. Part of Martha's plan in faking the marriage was to give Eleanor and her son, Jacob, a safe place to stay, as nasty rumors had begun spreading about her. The Bishops had her move in under the excuse that they were helping financially support her. Martha is incredibly happy with her unofficial wife, and her close friendship with her "husband"
