"Please, just leave already." 

Dechert is a young artificer working out of a lab in the back of Matlock's Pawnshop in Doors. He instantly takes a disliking to the party, who always seems to bother him for magical items while he is trying to work. He has recently taken on the position of City Magus in his hometown of Uriah Keep. His mentor is Garrett Colwell, City Magus of Westport, also known as Garrett the Wizard.

His inventions include the Wand of Flames, Dagger of Dechert, Magical Apparatus, Portable Lab, and Three-Way Locker.

Appearance


Dechert is a young man with a stern expression and charcoal-colored hair. He is almost always seen scowling, resulting in permanent frown lines forming on his face. He is never seen without his white lab coat, upon which the letters "DL" (Dechert Labs) were sewn by Matlock. 

Personality


Dechert is a sour individual, getting extremely annoyed when he is bothered, especially when he is working in his laboratory. He is only truly happy when he is tinkering or experimenting. He is usually happy to lend or give away his previous inventions, as this allows him to clear space in his lab while also gaining some much-needed practical data.

Background


Dechert was born in the Human / Elven city Uriah Keep. From a young age, he was mentored by the wizard Colwell. Colwell would only be able to teach him the basics, as his specialty was in alchemy, while young Dechert was always more interested in magical weapons and devices. Eventually, the pair would move south, eventually parting ways.

Dechert would rent space in Matlock's Pawnshop as well as provide magic items to sell in the store.

Campaign

The party first met Dechert in his laboratory, where he gave them a number of magical trinkets, including the Wand of Flames in exchange for combat data.

Later, the party would turn to Dechert for help arming themselves against the goblin invasion. Dechert gave them a number of helpful items including the Dagger of Dechert.

While searching for perfumed oil, the party continued to bug Dechert until he yelled at them to leave. Naeris then read his minds with Detect Thoughts and took the oil anyway.

Later, Dechert informed the party that he had been offered and accepted the position of City Magus in his home city, and that he would be packing up his lab and leaving.

Relationships


Garrett "the Wizard" Colwell- Dechert's mentor. He quickly learned all that the old wizard could teach him, and the two have not seen one another for several years, although they keep in contact through letters sent via the Two-way Locker.

Matlock- Dechert's landlord. Matlock would call them friends, Dechert would not.

Harrison- Dechert is often forced to babysit when the other adults are not around. 

Lydon- Lydon thinks Dechert is a creep. Dechert does not know Lydon's name.

Griff and Nobu- Lydon's goons who work part-time in the Pawnshop. They respect Dechert's skills as an artificer. Dechert also does not know their names.
