His Tattoo: 

Basically, the way that Cabot was turned into a demon was being stabbed by a demon blade in the eye. It didn't cut deep enough to kill him, but he lost his sight and was cursed. The way the curse works, it starts at the source of the wound and slowly spreads through your body, changing you into a demon. Cabot was desperate to prevent it, he contacted a witch-doctor who said that putting a special tattoo around the wound would prevent the curse from spreading. Cabot got the tattoo, but unfortunately it didn't work. The curse still spread, his whole body turned blue, his eyes turned red, and he grew wings. He still can't see out of his left eye, but it doesn't look any different from his right.
